Government ban on mercury-free fixtures takes effect Jan. 1
Within four weeks, it will be a crime to manufacture a 100-watt version of Thomas A. Edisons brilliant invention. Thanks to a Democratic Congress and the signature of President George W. Bush in 2007, anti-industrial zealots at the Energy Department received authority to blot out one of the greatest achievements of the industrial age. Theyre coming for our light bulbs.
Know-it-all bureaucrats insist that foisting millions of mercury-laden fluorescent tubes on the public is going to be good for the planet. The public obviously does not agree. Voting with their wallets, people have overwhelming favored warm, nontoxic lighting options over their pale curlicue imitators. Beginning Jan. 1, Obama administration extremists will impose massive financial penalties on any company daring to produce a lighting product that fully satisfies ordinary Americans.
The Republican House hasnt done enough to stop this. Rep. Michael C. Burgess, Texas Republican, added language to the Energy and Water Appropriations bill to prohibit the bans implementation. A Senate committee deleted this sensible amendment in September, and its been quite a while since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has allowed an up-or-down vote on a funding bill.

I am going to stock up on 100 watt GE Reveal bulbs. 75 watt bubs are safe for now. They get banned in January 2013 unless we get a Republican president with a brain
I was helping a friend put in a dimmer switch for a new chandelier. All HD hadwas non-dimmable compact fluorescents. Seems the dimmable compact fluorescents go for $15, what a rip off. So he’s stocking up on ye good ol incandescents
Didn't GE get a bailout? Why support them?
Market them as a 100W heating element with this statement.
WARNING! It is a violation of Federal Law to use this 100 Watt heat element, formerly known as a 100 Watt light bulb, as a light bulb.
HA!
I like that and they should be totally legal to sell with that warning. :)
Are there any CHEAP haz-mat suits being sold?
I got a lifetime supply :>} Bought early and often. No Green Nazi is going too tell me how to light my home.

LEDs are where it’s at, until an EMP of course.
I have hit the ‘report abuse’ button on your post(s). Why do you want to display such disrespect for the forum that obviously provides you with abundantly good service most of the time?
Have you been drinking today?
I just bought a couple.. I am sick of walking around my house in what looks like candle light..
Are we going to be able to get them in canada?? Does anyone know?
I just put of a huge display of 100 watters at my store and am having a hard time keeping it full.
Would our reps in D.C. allow a mercury type of warfare against the citizenry to manifest itself? Well, it was voted on and signed into law. Thinking conspiracy? No, just observing the facts.
Pro choice on light bulbs!
The first clue of their omnipotent idiocy should have been when they banned high volume toilets........
These are halogen capsules encased in a frosty bulb that looks like a normal incandescent. Because the halogen lamp burns at a hotter, more energy efficient temperature (and the encapsulated halogen gas slows the evaporation of the very hot filament), you get things like 100 watt brilliance at 72 watts, and 60 watt brilliance at 30 watts. But they are mongo expensive. Maybe someone will come up with a system where you can just replace the halogen capsule piece, and keep the outer shell and the base.

Interesting reply! I stopped at Lowes today, still looking for the 95 watt bulbs. No luck.
About a year ago, my husband and I cleared a Wal-Mart shelf of every light bulb they had in stock. About 2.5 cases. The cashier and other customers looked at me funny.
Glad I bought them.
