Newt's Health Problems
American Spectator ^ | 11.28.11 @ 6:09AM | By David Catron

Posted on 11/28/2011 9:02:50 AM PST by marty60

The malady is far more serious than a mere affinity for mandates.

When I read that Donald Berwick had resigned from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), I nearly shouted for joy. The cheer died on my lips, however, when my eye caught the following headline among those retrieved when I sent my search engine after more information: "Gingrich-Endorsed Health Care Expert Don Berwick Forced to Resign." Surely, I thought, the gods cannot be this cruel. But they are, of course, as another search confirmed. Newt has indeed lauded Berwick as a pioneer in the quest to improve American health care. The former Speaker is already on record as a supporter of insurance mandates, and it has lately come to light that he endorsed stepped-up end-of-life counseling. Combined with those afflictions, Gingrich's praise of Berwick will send his health care credibility straight to Forest Lawn.

The Berwick boost was included in an opinion piece that Gingrich wrote in August of 2000 for the Washington Post. The column begins with an absurdly over-the-top metaphor equating day-to-day hospital operations with a Concorde crash that had occurred a week earlier: "Imagine that we had an airline crash every day, taking the lives of more than 250 Americans… a tragedy of similar proportions is occurring right now in American hospitals." Gingrich based this grotesque analogy on a highly questionable report by the Institute of Medicine titled, "To Err is Human," which claimed that as many as 98,000 preventable deaths occur in U.S. hospitals each year. This study, which is still cited by Obamacare supporters, was denounced at the time by the Journal of the American Medical Association as "exaggerated" and "shrill."

Let make a list of what Gingrich supports

Individual Insurance Mandate for at least 18 years
Endorsed healthcare rationing Don Berwick (forced to resign)
Promoting socialized approach to end of life

Why would Newt support these positions?

Why would Newt support these positions?

Probably because, bad as they are, they are better than unlimited tax increases to pay for unlimited Medicare spending.

Please tell me how you would ensure that Medicare spends in future years no more than it takes in.

“The Berwick boost was included in an opinion piece that Gingrich wrote in AUGUST OF 2000 for the Washington Post.”

Haahahahaaa. Very clever of you to post this, and no doubt it will appear on the side bar very soon.

So, in other words, Newt said something favorable about this guy 11 years ago. Have you checked to see if Newt was asked about this?

At least Newt answers the questions he’s been asked. I relish the idea of president, like him, who will stand up there and take the hits, by answering questions about whatever topic the press wishes to throw at him.

I relish a president who will proabaly actually write much of his own speeches and who will speak to the American people without a teleprompter 99% of the time.

I relish the idea of a president who will stand up to the press and to other world opinions about our country, and speak with clarity and with pride.

Newt is far from perfect, but he articulates in his ideas what many here ascribe to. I enjoy the petty posts from people like yourself, who post then hide. No doubt you’re from the Romney camp.

While you’re at it, why not check on Romney’s record and speeches circa 2000, or just go back to 2008 where the guy was clearly in the left’s camp.

Wow, so Newt gets a pass on all of his Socialist Policy positions? How interesting.

Guess you like the death panel too.

Great, more Perrybot attacks on other candidates, so this is what Perry supporters are reduced to nowadays.

This is the problem Repubs have. NO ONE HAS A SPINE.

Were you so supportive of O-care when the rest of us were fighting it tooth and nail?

Or is it the death panels you like.

Fact of LIFE: EVERYONE GETS OLDER. They are starting them at 65. But when that fails to solve the debt problem maybe they will go to 55.

WHAT, posting NEWTS RECORD.

Frankly, I find it rather funny. The Cainiacs,Paulbots and now the Newters are all up in arms over Newts record being posted. But when Perry announced you all posted anything and everything you could find to claim Perry was this or that.

WHAT HYPOCRITS!

It looks like a vote for Newt is a vote for Obamacare

Has Newt said he would repeal Obamacare?

There were a lot of tea partiers saying "Get the government out of my health care" at the same time as they were saying "Don't touch my Medicare".

This is defined as "cluelessness".

I am totally in favor of repealing Obamacare. But that's not enough. We have to keep the Medicare and Medicaid programs from bankrupting the country. And that won't happen without some major cuts.

Now, we can do that by curtailing coverage, or by cutting payments to doctors and hospitals.

In my opinion, the latter is what will happen. There won't be any death panels, but there will not be many places that will accept Medicare patients. So we get to the same end, but via a different path.

Sidebar. NAW, if your not a Cainiac or Newter your article does not get sidebar status.

Great Perry post NEVER make the sidebar. You think we don’t know that FR has turned into a political gossip site.

But I still try to provide some REAL info.

Yeah, right, its the “lets attack everyone so our guy looks good because our guy sucks so bad in the polls”.

Typical Perrybot.

American Spectator must be hard up for writers to have hired Catron! The guy likes to make a maze out of words. I don’t have the time or the patience to waste on incredible writers, sorry.

The self serving career politician, Nut Grinch does not deserve our attention or trust either. He is a match with Malibu Ken Mitt for flip flopping. Neither candidate is a conservative. That is a fact.

It’s NOT about attacking ANYONE. It’s about actually knowing that a threat exists.

Domestic AND Foreign.

How's your moral compass and ego, I'm wondering? Any skeleton's hidden in your closets? Any actions or thoughts you've had that you'd rather not dredge up? Or, are you able to live in a glass house with impunity?
