The EPA heaved its weight against another industry this month, issuing a regulation to sharply increase fuel economy. Under this new rule, America's fleet of passenger cars...will have to...meet an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, a doubling of today's average...By the EPA's estimate the rule will cost $157 billion, meaning the real number is vastly greater.

She is a fat, ugly, b**ch. Why does she not reduce her carbon footprint by cutting down her weight bigtime?

They should call this the “pack everyone into a dense urban environment” law.

The real costs will be largely hidden. Manufacturers can meet this goal by selling EV and hybrid cars. The high efficiency diesel cars will also work. The hybrid and diesel vehicles cost 10 to 20 percent more than gasoline models. The real cost will be the change in the fleets. Manufacturers will not produce enough SUVs, mini vans, and possibly trucks to meet demand. The price of these vehicles will increase sharply hitting young families very hard. Auto manufacturers will effectively ration large vehicles to satisfy government mandates about fuel efficiency. I can foresee prices of large vehicles increasing 50 percent as the impact of the artificial fuel efficiency takes effect. The fuel efficiency standards are just government control of the mix of vehicles produced, a rationing scheme.

The fuel-economy rule is classic Obama EPA. Until this Administration, fuel standards were the remit of Congress....

President Jackson is now casting aside 35 years of [precedent]. Because the Obama EPA has declared carbon dioxide a “pollutant,” and because cars emit CO2, Ms. Jackson is citing the Clean Air Act in her bid to commandeer Detroit.

The problem isn't caused by or confined to one EPA head. The EPA needs to dramatically limited in it's ability to meddle in private business and the lives of Americans. It's current power is (of course) due to Democrats, but also to Republicans shamelessly pandering to liberals.

Abolish the EPA. Sell its offices, cars, equipment; terminate all its leases, agreements and contracts, as well as all its employees. Use the money to pay down the debt.

Heh. I hate those damned "interpretive" spell-check features, but sometimes the result is entertaining.

So Lisa is sort of like a "fembot", right out of Dr. Evil's volcano lair? Sadly, that makes far more sense than it should.

Hidden costs, true; but there’s going to be a “hidden” in plain sight effect, i.e., it furthers the gov’t agenda to limit personal mobility. The liberal elites are determined to see to it that the range of personal mobility is severely limited such that the only option when traveling between cities, say 200 miles apart, will be the gov’t trains. They hate the idea that free minded people leave the cities each weekend for their country retreats away from the urban pits of despair that american cityscape has become.

The EPA and the greens are taking over this country. Obama blocked the Keystone Pipeline, cancelled our energy future and destroyed 20,000 jobs in one fell swoop. He also forces Americans to continue to fund foreign terrorist states that want to kill us. I wish he would stop bowing to the wrong people! Trying bowing to the American working man for a change!

Obama receives serious money from the Sierra Club, and the rest of their ilk. He is beholden to them and needs them for his re-election. The greens are hypocrites, they are blocking renewable energy in almost every state. They are stopping wind and solar projects, yet demand that we get off fossil fuel. The ‘Green Jobs’ mantra is a real con job coming from Obama and the greens. What they really desire is the added costs to energy to inhibit consumption, via a CO2 tax or the constraint of energy supply to make Americans pay more. It is inflationary and will inhibit growth, as well as drain our wealth to give to the coffers of terrorist states, but they do not care.

Their basic philosophy attacks consumption, humanity and technology. Any person that knows Paul Erhlich, their philosophical father, will agree. They despise “economic growth”, they despise human population growth, and they really despise cost reducing technology for the production of energy. The fear of fracking is not dirty water, (the PA sites are trucking the waste water away), the real issue is an unlimited supply of natural gas, cheap fossil fuel, that can run cars and electric power plants for increased consumption, and by the way, a better life for millions of people. The greens are concerned that the subjects will not live their lives according to the Green Code of Denial if energy is too cheap!

The EPA now chases racetracks that produce too much horse manure - I kid you not, check the Portland, Oregon race track and the EPA. If we need a dense federal bureaucracy filled with thousands of people making $100 thousand a year to chase horse $hit, I think we can declare victory on the war on pollution, and can start dismantling the EPA for the benefit of America. (Hell, horse manure ain’t so bad, it is a long way from dioxin.)

These green apparatchiks are gaining far too much power and need to be reined in. They are de facto dictators, with powers outside congressional authority, running amuck, increasing costs, destroying jobs, and then blissfully walking away when factories open up overseas. Not one whit of care for the American jobless.

One thing is a fact about greens - they do not care about people; human beings are far down their list of priorities. Theirs’ is an ideological Earth first agenda that is for reducing population, by government fiat if necessary, and making the survivors’ lives costly and miserable, so hopefully they won’t have children. They worship the Earth, and wildlife, and are seemingly winning in destroying our lives.
