Mike Huckabee tells conservatives to prepare to back Mitt Romney
Yahoo News ^ | November 21, 201 | Rachel Rose Hartman

Posted on 11/28/2011 9:42:28 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

Former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on Sunday became the latest pundit to concede that while Mitt Romney may not be the perfect candidate, conservatives should prepare to support him as their nominee.

As Ben Smith reported, when Huckabee was asked Sunday by 77WABC New York "Investigative Radio" host Aaron Klein to comment on whether the tea party will sit out the 2012 election if former Massachusetts Gov. Romney is the Republican nominee, Huckabee responded with the following:

It would be real tragic if they stayed out because Mitt Romney may not be their first choice, but Mitt Romney every day of the week and twice on Sunday is gonna to be a much more effective president for issues that they care about than Barack Obama. And I think sometimes there is this anxiety within the Republican Party of who is the perfect candidate. The answer is: there isn't one. And so, what you find is you have to decide who can survive the process. And whoever that is-- and if it's Mitt Romney, then I think Republicans and conservatives and tea party need to get behind him and say, 'You may not be our first choice, but between you and Obama, I'll vote forty times to help get you elected.'

Huckabee's comments are the latest indication conservatives are readying one another to "hold their noses" and vote for Romney, who opponents on both sides of the aisle paint as the most moderate major Republican candidate in the 2012 race.

Last week, it was conservative pundit Ann Coulter who was dispensing the "get ready for Romney" advice.

Mitt Romney may not be their first choice...

I don't think Mitt's anyone's second or third choice either.

See tag-line for reference.

Not yet I won’t. Maybe Romney will be the nominee (I hope not), but we haven’t even had the Iowa caucus yet. It’s way too soon to be preparing for such a thing. I’ll be supporting a conservative for the nomination.

In addition, Mike Huckabee is has credibility problems of his own with conservatives.

Romney is going to choose Huckabee as his VP, in order to lock in the conservative/evangelical vote, and Huckabee will agree to do so. You heard it here first.

Last week, Huckabee responded to a question of why Romney was getting a pass from the butt checking of the MSM.

Huckabee responded that Romney was vetted four years ago and therefore it was unnecessary!

BS - Huckabee should stick to playing his guitar and keep his mouth shut!

Caught some conservative talk radio this afternoon. Two well known hosts bashed Gingrich while claiming Romney could beat Obama because his hair was nice. Both of the backstabbing b******s avoided any comparison of Newt/Mitt positions. Neither offered any alternatives before I changed the station, permanently.

If conservatives do as Huckabee recommends...proclaim that they will actively support a liberal like Romney if he is nominated...that will assure that the nominee is, in fact, a liberal like Romney.

On the other hand, if conservatives stand up and say that they will never support Romney, a real conservative can be nominated.

By the next four years we may not have a country! The vote would be looked at as condoning Obamacare. BO is just waiting for re-election to finish Soros's plans. The Supreme Court would be tilted to the left;please don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

No. I will never vote for RINO - Romney. But what is upsetting me the most is that we just don’t have a Conservative Party. I see voting Third Party for a LONG time to come unless we eradicate these RINO elites in the GOP.

Heaven knows I’m completely done with the GOP. I’ll support certain candidates, policies and ballot initiatives, but as a Party, I’m done. This is insane. Why are we Dem-lite?

Is there a convincing argument that it would be better under Gingrich than Romney? I'm not so sure.

Both have and would support mandated health care.

Both have, and would, support some form of Amnesty.

Both have and would continue to support big ideas, big government and big spending.

Gingrich appears to be more wacky when it comes to the environment and is a professional lobbyist.

Neither are trustworthy or honest.

Romney would be terrible, but why should we think Gingrich would be any better?

Misleading headline.

He didn't tell Tea Partiers to prepare for Romney. He said IF Romney is the candidate, the Tea Party should vote for him.

Nowhere does he say Romney is the inevitable choice.
