Dayton, a Democrat, ordered the election two weeks ago so that providers could vote on whether to be represented by a union in "meet and confer" talks with the state.
The order allows in-home providers who participate in state-subsidized Child Care Assistance Programs to vote on whether to be represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) or the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), depending on where in the state their business is.
Ballots are scheduled to be mailed Dec. 7 to about 4,300 of some 11,000 in-home providers in Minnesota. They would be counted Dec. 22.

Its about registering new Democrat voters. It has nothing to do with protecting child care providers.
Since MN is not a Right to Work state, wouldn’t all providers getting state aid then be compelled to join the union?
Actually, it's about creating a new revenue stream for 'rat politicians. All these newly unionized folks will be forced to pay union dues. Unions will spend that money to put union-favoring 'rat politicians in power.
Yup. If the union wins the majority of the ballots, that is exactly what is going to happen. Dayton is trying to build up the Democrats’ power base - the unions.
We have a BINGO
Actually its both. And the aim is to dislodge MN Republicans from power and make sure it’ll be a long time before they regain the statehouse.
It's just the union dues that will be involuntary.
I did not understand it was “voluntary” but was compulsory.
Seems there was a story about a couple taking care of each other being forced to have union dues deducted from their bennies....
Could be wrong, tho...
Recently there was a story about a couple in Michigan who were getting state money for caring for their disabled adult chidren, but the SEIU skimmed some of the state money from the top.
Maybe that was it...something like $30 a mo or something...I should quit being lazy and go look it up....LOL
the goonyans call it “fair share” dues.
