Sheriff Joe Arpaio Endorses Governor Rick Perry for President
American Freedom ^ | 29th November 2011 | Press Release

Posted on 11/29/2011 6:36:50 AM PST by shield

AMHERST, N.H. - Texas Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a steadfast advocate for border security and national leader in combating on illegal immigration, citing Gov. Perry's unmatched efforts to bolster border security in Texas in light of a federal government that for too long has abdicated this basic responsibility to the states. Sheriff Arpaio made his announcement at Joey's Diner in Amherst, New Hampshire.

"The federal government has failed on border crime and border enforcement, and no candidate for president has done more to secure the border than Governor Rick Perry. I have been watching Governor Perry and Texas closely and know his border surge operations with state, local and federal law enforcement officials have helped shut down the illegal trafficking of weapons, drugs and people," said Sheriff Arpaio. "I'm endorsing Rick Perry because we need a tough-on-crime president who will champion and fund full-time border security operations from Brownsville to San Diego. Governor Perry has a superior border security record and plan to make our border and our nation safer."

As governor of Texas, Rick Perry has diligently worked to fill the gap left by Washington's abject failure to secure the nation's southern border with Mexico, and supported and passed measures to combat illegal immigration.

He has directed more than $400 million since 2005 to provide law enforcement the tools they need to combat border-related crime. The governor's initiatives have put more boots on the ground, including Texas Rangers and National Guard units, and improved technology to help law enforcement detect and deter criminal activity on the border. In January 2009, Gov. Perry asked President Obama to authorize 1,000 additional National Guard troops and six helicopters to assist the state in doing Washington's job, but he has refused.

"Sheriff Arpaio knows the struggle border states face as Washington politicians and bureaucrats fail time and again to properly secure our nation's southern boundary with Mexico," said Gov. Perry. "I am honored to have Sheriff Arpaio's support for my presidential campaign and our shared goals of fighting border crime with more personnel, border fencing and surveillance. A secure border is vital to protecting America's national security, public safety and jobs. As president, I will secure the border within a year putting thousands more federal boots on the ground, strategic fencing and aerial resources to fight border crime and make our states and nation safer."

Gov. Perry's border security initiatives have resulted in the seizure of 6.8 million pounds of marijuana; 82,353 pounds of cocaine; 1,835 pounds of heroin; and 7,552 pounds of methamphetamine which has an estimated value of more than $6.5 billion. In addition, officers have seized $227 million in currency and more than 3,500 illegal weapons.

Additionally, to combat illegal immigration, Gov. Perry:

Championed a Voter ID law that ensures only American citizens will be able to vote in elections;

Signed into law a requirement that only citizens and legal residents may obtain a driver license;

Declared legislation outlawing "sanctuary cities" an emergency item in Texas, and added it to the call of the special session;

Fought for tougher penalties for those who engage in human trafficking;

Signed a law that requires counties to assist the state in tracking the number of illegal immigrants in Texas county jails;

Passed an omnibus gang bill providing even more tools for law enforcement to be able to infiltrate and break up the transnational gangs; and

Protected a Texas law that prevents any public agency, taxing jurisdiction or economic development corporation from receiving public subsidies if they have been found to have hired undocumented workers.

Also known as "America's Toughest Sheriff," Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been elected five times as Maricopa County Sheriff in Arizona, serving in the post for 20 years, and is respected for his successful efforts to fight crime, combat illegal immigration and raise awareness of the federal government's ongoing failure to secure the border. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953, and as a police officer in Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas for five years. He then joined the Bureau of Narcotics, eventually renamed the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) where he became one of the very first federal agents sent overseas to help dismantle the international heroin conspiracy operating in Turkey and throughout the Middle East. Sheriff Arpaio was a regional director for the DEA for Mexico and South America and was head of the DEA for Texas and Arizona.

Oh come on so Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a lying sack of chit, is he? Your making yourself look rather dumb, trolling a Perry thread.

“Sheriff Joe Arpaio Endorses Governor Rick Perry for President”

Joe is pretty tough on illegals. That he would back Perry means a lot. I still prefer Cain but Perry could be moving into my backup spot.

Joe doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to do. I amazed at the arrogance if some Freepers who think nobody else is allowed to have a differing opinion and if you do, you’re a sell out.

Perry has been a Governor of a border State and knows the issues. Apparently, Arpaio believes he’s done a good job of it.

Joe can pick whoever he chooses..I'm not him. Of course, there is not much of a choice again for the Republicans.

I personally wouldn't vote for Perry if ya took me to the polls in a complimentary fully stocked stretch limo. He's just another Republican fraud, who after almost 11 years of a massive invasion into Texas, he's suddenly tough illegal immigration. Seen this all before with Bush.

No sale here, but feel free to pull out your own money.

“Gives him credibility in the immigration area, IMHO. This was one of my main obstacles to voting for Perry.”

ditto

Character and abilities really are important factors when running for president. Perry has both...and Cain does not...

You do not know what you are talking about where Perry is concerned.

I just hope I can get the real scoop from an anonymous Freeper on why Joe is a sell out because they have all the real details.

LOL! They are falling all over themselves to get to this thread to tell us all how Joe is senile, irrelevent, or an outed RINO. They know! La Raza told them so! :o)

You just posed the same questions I have. I don’t know if there will be lots of heartburn if someone like Palin endorses Perry or not—I’m about halfway convinced that some of these are stealth Rom-bots, some are DU operatives, with just a small portion being actual conservatives. Most of them do not even behave like conservatives.

And of course we must believe this because you said so, no other documentation. I think not.

No doubt about it, Perry is sure to win now, oughta be topping 3% in the polls now, he’s almost there ...

It’s sad but the writing has been on the wall for some time now. The G.O.P. establishment will not allow an outsider to win the nod. The Democrats cannot allow Cain and Obama to stand on the same stage.

Wether Cain did these things or not is beside the point, they will continue to bring these largely unsubstantiated charges out of nowhere until people grow so weary of defending him that even his most ardent supporters will ask him to withdraw.

I am sick of it already, I am looking at Newt and Perry. I like Perry better on policy but the idea of him debating Obama scares the living hell out of me. Criminy, he makes “Dubya” sound like a flippin’ genius!

Newt? I disagree FAR more with Newt on policy but there exists no scenario in my mind where he does not mop the debate stage with Obama.

Coin flip I guess.

Plenty of info of what went on behind the scenes in this Michelle Malkin piece, and its many links: Texas Tea Party activists to Perry: Hey, what about our borders?. If Gov. Perry is serious about the sanctuary cities ban being an "emergency" measure, he can call a special session at ANY TIME and call for its passage, as the TX Tea Party has asked him to.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio knows all about illegal immigration, border security and holding illegal aliens accountable. He made the right decision and chose the best candidate in the entire field.

The question is, will this help Perry secure the nomination? We shall see.

>>Wonder what will happen if Palin supports Perry or becomes his running mate?<<

Now THAT makes sense...Perry choosing Palin as his running mate, that is...

Perry could put her on crony-capitalist watch, where she could perhaps rein in some of his own tendencies, while she grooms herself for 2020. Wonder what would happen in Iowa if he announced her as his VP choice before the caucus vote?

I think Palin is doing what we’re all doing. Trying to figure out who the ABR (anyone-but-Romney) candidate will end up being. And I doubt she can stomach Gingrich, though I could easily be wrong about that.

Do you think that the same legislators who just said no to the sanctuary city bill will change their minds so soon?

That group is simply posturing for political reasons. IF they really wanted to get the law passed they would be hounding the legislators who voted against the bill instead of demanding that Perry call another special session that would have the same exact results they just got.

Cain is already being told by those he trust to drop out. I would vote for Mittens long before Newt. Newt is more dangerous than Mittens could ever be. Myself and others have done intense research into Newt and what we've found is more frightening than anything Mittens has ever done.

I am sorry about Cain. However, it just isn't the women, he has made some of the dumbest statements. The president is not an entry level job. He really is not up to being the POTUS. IF he had the knowledge and abilities to be president, I'd have supported him. But all I'm seeing in him is an Obama on the right as far as knowledge and abilities are concerned.

Perry will eat Obama up in debates...Perry has held back big time on how tough he can actually be. Perry is a master at getting under people's skin...he did in the Vegas debate with Mittens and Mittens blow up...what did people say about Perry...Perry is mean. LOL...

“I would vote for Mittens long before Newt”

When hell freezes over is when I vote for Mitt Romney.

“Perry will eat Obama up in debates...”

I have NEVER seen anything out of Perry that supports that wild claim.

“Perry has held back big time on how tough he can actually be.”

Tough on himself? Because so far the only person that Perry has hurt in any of these debates is Perry. Obama is NOT a great debater and will still absolutely destroy Rick Perry. The only reason to watch debates 2 and 3 will be to see what the candidates are wearing.

“Perry is a master at getting under people’s skin...he did in the Vegas debate with Mittens and Mittens blow up”

Missed it, is there a link for that exchange? I really WANT to find some kind of hope that Perry won’t just unload a 30 round clip into his own boots in a Presidential debate.
