The Russian mistress of a married MP today won her battle to stay in Britain after a tribunal ruled that she is not a spy - and said her relationship with Mike Hancock is "enduring and genuine".
In the first case of its kind, a panel found that Katia Zatuliveter, 26, was truly in love with the 65-year-old Liberal Democrat and that she had never worked for the Kremlin.
It concluded that Ms Zatuliveter's "rapid consummation of affairs" with powerful older men, including a Nato diplomat and a Dutch diplomat, were genuine and not directed by the Russian Intelligence Service.
Ms Zatuliveter today accused MI5 of putting her through a 12-month "Kafkaesque" nightmare by forcing her to prove she was really in love with Mr Hancock and not just using him to pass on state secrets to the Kremlin during their four-year relationship.

The panel also found that while she would have been of "great interest" to the RIS, there was no evidence she had been enlisted by the spy agency either in Moscow or London and that her "networking" was "entirely consistent with her being an ambitious young woman with an interest in politics and international relations".
The panel found a diary entry by Ms Zatuliveter on 10 June, 2006 was of "critical importance" in proving her relationship with Mr Hancock was genuine.
It read: "I am in love... and he's gone to Iraq today. I worry a lot, don't know what to do, what to do with myself ... I stay at home all day. (Two friends) invited me to go to the opening of Leto Bar but I didn't: What if he calls me? My darling Teddy Bear.
