Obama's Job Approval Drops Below Carter's
U.S.News & World Report ^ | NOVEMBER 28, 2011 | Paul Bedard

President Obama's slow ride down Gallup's daily presidential job approval index has finally passed below Jimmy Carter, earning Obama the worst job approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern political history.

Since March, Obama's job approval rating has hovered above Carter's, considered among the 20th century's worst presidents, but today Obama's punctured Carter's dismal job approval line. On their comparison chart, Gallup put Obama's job approval rating at 43 percent compared to Carter's 51 percent.

Back in 1979, Carter was far below Obama until the Iran hostage crisis, eerily being duplicated in Tehran today with Iranian protesters storming the British embassy. The early days of the crisis helped Carter's ratings, though his failure to win the release of captured Americans, coupled with a bad economy, led to his defeat by Ronald Reagan in 1980.

According to Gallup, here are the job approval numbers for other presidents at this stage of their terms, a year before the re-election campaign:

If she wasn’t willing to take the body blows this event illicites then its good she opted out. Id rather not have another Fred moment this time around. His mouth wrote checks he wasn’t able/willing to deliver on.

As for the rest its a sad showing for conservatism when this is all that could be mustered/showed up for the fight. Frankly, its not about DC anyway. Real change is going to come from outside of the Big Cesspool. No matter who goes to DC they need constant watching and thats where the teaparty comes in. We need to keep constant watch on them and make sure they know it.

OK, I would, perhaps thats just me tho. I have little love for the chest beaters TX seems good at producing. Thats nice Texans love their state/way of living so much and I dont fault them on that. Its when they demand everyone else agree. The lairs are Romney and Newt.

You forgot that he gets a 10 point bump for being a Halfrican and another 5 point bump for being a Muslim...so, with the adjustments, he’s above where Carter was...Problem Solved.

One more time we’re allowing the media to steer the conversation. The real comparison that Obama’s 43% should be made with is the 44% of Lyndon Johnson, perhaps one of the most hated Presidents of my generation...and we all know what happened to him.

Obama’s ratings below Carters? It’s Bush’s fault.

I don't mind the chest-beaters so much. I figure if they can do it for TX maybe they'll do it for the country.

I don't love Perry and I wish there was a better choice, but IMO he's the best of the lot.

Palin is one of them, she's the candidate who is staying out because apparently she believes open warfare would be declared on her by the entire screaming class of the Left.

You have no idea why Sarah chose not to run.

You have an opinion which only proves that any xsshole can have both.

Why would you assume to know what motivated Sarah to chose her course of action?

Are you a member of her family, if not ESAD.

Oh Darn! You're right! My Bad....

I will of course sacrifice at the altar of ML King, Bobby Kennedy and other Gods whom I've offended (Ayers? Rudd?) for not seeing the light from his usually included Halo (where is Time magazine when ya need 'em?)!

In 1976 Reagan almost won the nomination. At the convention it was very exciting. He was the conservative candidate, bar none. And the establishment gop hated his success.

Id rather not have another Fred moment

Fred? Oh. Fred Thompson. Yeah, he was all Hollywood by that time. Went to a state fair and, instead of walking around pressing the flesh, he rode a golf cart and waved at the people as he cruised by them. Yeah, great campaigner that Fred.

Yes, I remember it well and I remember the 20 minute protest when Reagan lost to Ford. As for the "establishment" Republicans... to me, this comes off like the sour grapes class envy we denigrate in the other party so I avoid the phrase.

Low poll numbers?

Is that why so many in the electorate still support him with tenacious loyalty?

(Think Obama in 2012; hardcore 40%, hardcore Progressives, brilliant intellectual-genius “Independents” and Progressive voter registration drives = 2nd term.)

IMHO
