Lynsey Addario, the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times photographer, received an apology from the Israel's Defense Ministry on Monday after IDM officials conducted a strip-search on her last month at a security check point near Gaza. Addario, who is pregnant, had asked Israel border security to refrain from putting her through an X-ray machine out of concern for her unborn child. "Instead," the Associated Press reports, "she was forced through the machine three times as soldiers...

Lynsey has been through a lot this year = and she's one dedicated, talented photographer. She has embedded with our soldiers in the most dangerous areas of Afghanistan and recorded unforgettable footage in the middle of some the most deadly battles.
She was captured and unheard of for an extended time in the illegal was in Libya - a big sigh of rlief when she was released.
Now she has to worry about her unborn child.
We're becoming a world of barbarians - but punish only the innocent...
Too much time on hands, not enough to do...?
Could it be that Israel has watched the NY Times giving comfort and aid to America’s and Israel’s enemies for so long that they now suspect that the NY Times may try to sneak terrorists through? Just a thought...
Ann Coulter would not name present day traitors among the Liberals because she was afraid of the suicides; however, she made an exception to that with The New York Times and Pinch Sulzberger.
Israel should apologize... to its own soldiers for having to even deal with this entity.
Oh, pity the poor award-winning NYT photographer.
So now she has to worry about her unborn child?
Seems she’s a good deal more worried about her precious career.
No kidding. It’s not like the peace-loving Palestinians would ever stoop to disguising a suicide bomber as a pregnant woman.
Do you have a different account? This piece clearly states she asked, in fear of her unborn child, not to be put through the xray - but they not only did, they made her go through 3 times - while laughing.
You disdain her as "elitist."
Have you seen her body of work? (I have) Have you seen her battle photos from the middle the Kunar in some of the fiercest fire fights - battles that now are legend in the award winning documentary "Restrepo". (I have.)
Have you had the guts to immerse yourself, voluntarily, in such danger? ( I have not. I wouldn't be able to keep up and would be a liability.)
YOU?
Or maybe you do know all the above - or know her personally and thus are able to sneer with righteousness and the dismiss the incident as reported in the article as not happening. Do let us know how you know better?
Too much time on hands, not enough to do...?
Got a mirror?
...............I have not read where anybody ORDERED her into one of the most violent places on earth if not the most violent.................
...............so, if something is wrong with her kid then she is the one that CHOSE to put herself in that position................
Addario - read carefully - is a FREE LANCE PHOTOGRAPHER.
She doesn't write articles. She takes photos.
She goes where the work is - Yes, the NYT hires her a lot - because of the excellence of her work and her guts to go where few dare, voluntarily.
For you - or anyone, to write such vitriol about a pregnant woman and her unborn baby being subjected to the unknown dangers of such Xrays and pass it off as if she and the baby deserve it is telling more about YOU than her.
One could wonder just what kind of person that makes you - maybe even YOU should wonder.
Sometimes I think everyone connected with the NYTimes should be strip searched.
What nitwit would run around Gaza carrying an unborn child she was concerned about?
Just asking.
She is described as a New York Times photographer. That’s enough and don’t lay a guilt trip on me!
So one trip through the Xray wasn't sufficient?
They needed to run her through 3 times while laughing in the gallery?
I come to respect the Israel Security Ministry as more professional, especially considering their remarks against our barbaric TSA methods and reminding people that their system - famous for it's success rate - if far more humane.
BTW, before any of you also slam me as antisemitic, disagreeing with an incident that should not have happened is not being anti-Jewish. I have been pro-Israel all my life - and that's a bundle of decades now. Indeed, I wish to He*l BiBi was OUR president instead of the muzzie-lover we have.
On second thought, I don't wonder. But being in FR, I am greatly disappointed.
Y'all have fun in here, now, spilling your bile.
I'm not playing. As my grampa would say "Don't p - ah, spit into the wind."
What would “The New York Times Manual of Style & Usage” have to say about that turn of phrase? Can there be unborn children; or, aren't they all just foetuses, or tissue?
Is that you Lynsey?
Keep in mind the pressure the IDF soldiers go through on a daily basis trying to deal with the Gaza Muzzies on the inside and the Leftist Israelis on the outside of the border. They do what they have to do regardless of who you are. Press photographers don’t get treated any differently.
and of course the whole truth and nothing but the whole truth is ever written in a media headline - especially if it fits your agenda.
She is, ONCE AGAIN, a Free lanceer - who because of her excellent work, gets assignments from top magazines, including National Geo and NYT.
But don't let facts get in the way of your self righteousness.
BTW, an aside, I know, personally, about her work and her status as a free lancer. A free lancer works for themselves and picks up work from assignments. As an accomplished photographer, she is in demand. She has worked hard to get to her level - in her business - her INDEPENDENT BUSINESS. Get it yet?
I doubt it. Hard to get past pompous judgment.
I never intimated that Press photographers should get treated differently. the point of the story is that she's PREGNANT and the unborn child could suffer damage - ONE TRIP through the Xray was one too many - and NO NEED WHATSOEVER to make her go through 3 times - while laughing -
But because she's a 'press photographer' - she's sure getting different treatment in here than would a 'just plain traveling mom-to-be.'
Hmmm. Kinda throws your argument out the window...
