Missiles that "allow coverage of entire Syrian coastline" reportedly delivered in accordance with 2007 contract.

MOSCOW - Russia has delivered anti-ship cruise missiles to Syria, the Interfax news agency cited an unnamed military source as saying on Thursday, days after a United Nations commission of inquiry called for an arms embargo on Damascus.

Economic and diplomatic pressure has isolated Syrian President Bashar Assad following a nine-month government crackdown against protesters in unrest the United Nations says has killed more than 4,000 people.

Moscow has spoken out against further sanctions imposed by Western and Arab League states, and it has defended its right to sell Syria weapons -- tens of millions of dollars worth last year.

"The contract was completely fulfilled, almost ahead of time," Interfax cited the source as saying of the deal, estimated at $300 million. The source did not say when the deliveries had taken place.

Good time to be an arms dealer. Probably has been for the last 10 years. They end up selling to both sides.

Good time to make sure no American ships are inside 200 miles of Syria’s coast lest we have a repeat of the USS Stark. Either way, any of them near there better have the anti-missile systems warmed up and active.

He’s on all the wrong sides. But the muzzies are going to make sure the Middle East blows up as they keep trying to goad Israel into war yet again.

“...the muzzies are going to make sure the Middle East blows up...”

Once the dogs of war are loosed, no one controls them. Such a war could involve anyone. We could very well see a situation where Arab nations are at war with each other over Islam, water, territory, oil,...and the battles surround Israel but do not consume it.

Hey, it’s just idle speculation.

Can anyone tell us what kind of missiles these are? Russia has like twenty different kinds of these missiles. They could be Sunburns, or what?

Russia has plans for the Middle East without the USA and at least for awhile, Israel.

In light of things happend in Libya these missiles are a pro-Israely and pro-Western element.
Assad government is more pro-West and pro-Israel than any possible alternative.

Well they were building that nuclear reactor. And Syria has threatened war with Israel if anything happens. They are certainly using it - Google “Syria threatens Israel” - several 2011 results.

There are no hippies in ME so all of them are threatened each other. An idea is a sober secular regime no matter how bad it is always better than islamist junta rule.

The problem is all these secular muslims have given nodding heads and financial support to the jihad fundamentalist muzzies. Syria has long been a haven for terrorists. Hafez Assad made sure of that. Now they act surprised when the monsters they helped create turn on them. There was no other way it would turn out. No sane person incites and arms the criminal element in their own neighborhood.

These are supersonic anti-ship/land attack missiles with a range of about 300kms. It’s a newer misisle than the Sunburn. It’s a pretty big missile so they are likely to get only coastal defence variants.
