Gingrich, Santorum, and Bachmann fail to field full slate of delegates in NH
American Thinker ^ | December 2, 2011 | Rick Mor

.... As recently as two weeks ago, the Gingrich campaign was apparently unable to name 40 New Hampshire supporters of his presidential campaign.

Candidates needed to file their slates of 20 delegates to the National Convention, along with 20 alternates, with the Secretary of State by November 18. The Gingrich campaign filed a partial slate of 14 delegates and 13 alternates, leaving 13 slots vacant. Among the 27 names Gingrich listed are three members of his staff.

Rick Santorum (12 delegates and 12 alternates) and Michele Bachmann (18 delegates) also filed partial slates. Gary Johnson (10 delegates and one alternate) and Buddy Roemer (eight delegates) also had incomplete filings.

In contrast, Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, and Mitt Romney all filed full slates of 40 people.

No doubt Gingrich would be able to identify 40 committed supporters this week, in the wake of his endorsement by the New Hampshire Union Leader and riding a wave of interest in his candidacy. But the campaign's failure to do so just nine days prior to the paper's endorsement is an indicator of the extent to which the campaign is starting from scratch - and could signal a lack of basic organization. Filing a slate of delegates isn't complicated, but it does require advance planning, as each delegate or alternate needs to sign his or her own form. It's not the sort of thing that can be left to the last minute.

This is the sort of thing that shouldn't slip through the cracks. And it reinforces one of the major criticisms that has dogged Gingrich since he came to Congress in 1979; details don't concern him. He is very good at conceptualizing but takes no interest in how anything gets done.

A full slate of delegates is rather meaningless in the broad scope of things. If the one of the lesser candidates gets to the convention and is this number of delegates short, it will be a brokered convention anyway which is unlikely. By Super Tuesday, this thing will be settled. President Santorum, here we go.

The gist of the column is that Newt spouts out a myriad of ideas (like throwing pasta against a wall) but he isn’t a “roll up your sleeves and work until the job is done” executive. And as we’ve all watched, along the way Newt is always helping himself to the staff and looking to his financial pay-off down the road and around the corner.

And don’t forget he is an AlBORE nut on global warming.

Yes. Newt really isn’t a deep thinker, he latches onto ideas (most are off the wall), flitting from one to another. He talks confidently (often insultingly) like he knows what he’s saying and that others don’t have a clue.

Has anyone ever told you that you have a really ugly outlook on life - there are many things you can say against Gingrich without the judgmental, derisive, snide tone you use. I’m not really angry at you for saying nasty things about my candidate, or any candidate you don’t support - I’ve read many of your nasty posts - I just really feel sorry for someone as eaten up by bitterness as you are. This place really stinks sometime.

There are young people - I know a lot of them - many in the military - who I often recommend to join or check out this site - for comprehensive political information. They are just beginning to get interested in politics - and not one of them has every stayed - they are full of energy and vigor and believe in true conservatism - but this board is becoming a hangout for a lot of old angry people... it’s just sad, sad like you.

Thanks for your comment. I gather from your “old angry people” comment that you are young.

It’s a fact of life “tbf” that people are judged by their behavior.

You didn’t respond by posting about your differing perspective, reasons for supporting your candidate, or give information and links to support those positions, but rather attacked me personally. I’ve been a fair poster on FR for a long time. Newt is not what our country needs, he’s up in the polls and it is the primary. He will be vetted.

Grow up.

Of course not, because I was responding to your post, which didn't include any of things... exactly my point. Had you put anything in your post about perspective, policy, poisitions, yada yada, I would have responded to that as specifically as I could. I was responding to your trash talk. YOUR trash talk, not mine. You don't have to be old to be grown up.

What did I say that was “trash talk?” I have not attacked you.

You seem fixated on the messenger and not concerned about the truth of what I said.

Do you think the Dems are going to let Newt float?

If you want to debate, let’s do it — the topic is the GOP Primary and Newt’s suitability to be nominated and carry the conservative banner.

I didn’t realize FR had become a “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything” site.

...trash talk = You said, "And as we’ve all watched, along the way Newt is always helping himself to the staff and looking to his financial pay-off down the road and around the corner."

...You seem fixated on the messenger and not concerned about the truth of what I said.

If you had posted links and sources that verified the source of your opinions I would have responded to those links, their veracity, sources, etc. You just threw out your opinions, which are not fact.

... Do you think the Dems are going to let Newt float?

I don't think the dems, the media or barack obama are going to let any of our candidates float... Not one.

...If you want to debate, let’s do it — the topic is the GOP Primary and Newt’s suitability to be nominated and carry the conservative banner.

That isn't a debate, that's a subjective discussion - for every endorsement or article or statement you can provide that declares Newt is unsuitable - I can produce one that says he is. It's opinion, and beauty in the eye of the beholder.

... I didn’t realize FR had become a “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything” site.

If it were, I doubt we'd be having this discussion, and you'd be on the bench.

It's pretty obvious what you believe about Newt. What I believe - in my heart - by faith and evidence that satisfies me - is he is a different person than he was those years ago. He has sought God's forgiveness, he has practiced the personal sacrament of reconciliation with his family, and has tried to put his past behind him - and many people naturally won't allow him to do that. Especially the ones who don't believe sinners can be saved by grace, and transformed into new creatures by the miracle working power of Christ's Holy Spirit. If my Christian references offend you, I sincerely apologize.

by the way, what does "tbf" stand for?

“Has anyone ever told you that you have a really ugly outlook on life”

Phrasing it as a question doesn’t change this from being a personal attack.

You’re right. I never looked at it that way. I could have talked about the content of the many posts which I considered nasty, but you’re right, that was a personal attack... I just get angry and upset sometimes by all the vitriol in this forum... and my candidate is Newt, so I get quite my fair share of it... and sometimes I take it personally... I will apologize to that Cincinatus person...

I want to apologize for accusing you of having an ugly outlook on life... I should have kept my post directed only to the nasty and negative content of your posts, which would have been the correct thing to do. Again, please accept my apology... thank you.

It has been a rough primary, but just remind yourself that things could always be worse... For example, I was rooting for Cain :(

oh, no, no, no... don’t give up on Cain... he has to do what is right for him... and I hope he will stay in. we can’t let the media do this... we can’t give them the power to choose our candidates; they have learned if they dirty anybody up - and if they do it long enough - they will leave the race. I hope Herman understands that, but I fear his family wont, and I understand that, too. If he leaves the race, we might as well just let the media take a poll, and let us know who they want for our candidate - and do with that... it would save a lot of money, work and tears... we can’t let it happen.
