George Will: 'You can associate many things with Mr. Gingrich, but wisdom isn’t one of them'
The Daily Caller ^ | December 2, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Conservative pundits have been lining up to voice their frustration over the possibility that former Speak of the House Newt Gingrich could wind up being the 2012 Republican presidential nominee. And you can add Washington Post columnist George Will to that list.

On Friday’s “The Laura Ingraham Show,” Will responded to Gingrich’s recent remarks that being the smartest isn’t enough, but instead to be the wisest.

“Mr. Gingrich said it’s not enough that he is the smartest guy in the room, he also has to be wise,” Will said. “Now you can associate many things with Mr. Gingrich, but wisdom isn’t one of them. Surely the Republican nominating electorate should understand the fact that people have patterns. Don’t expect the patterns to go away. Expect the patterns to manifest themselves again. If Newt Gingrich has any pattern at all, and he does – it is a pattern of getting himself into trouble because he thinks he is the smartest guy in the room.”

Burn from George Will. But that's funny, I find myself saying the same thing about George Will sometimes.

“Burn from George Will. But that’s funny, I find myself saying the same thing about George Will sometimes.”

You can probably find equally balanced hit pieces at HuffPo.

Strange - Will is a big fan of amnesty himself, so he should be right there with Newt.

He gets right to the heart of the matter.

George Will is a pompous ass like the rest of the beltway elitists.

Looks like they’re gunning for Newt now that he’s surging in the polls. MSM won’t stop destroying our guys until all we’re left with is Romney.

Will has been writing the same column for twenty years now - he just changes the proper nouns.

Ironic to hear these comments from a man who also magines himself to be the smartest man in the room. We need to put Will and Gingrich in the same room - and then lock the door.

Will also noted Gingrich’s association with “the catastrophic government commitment to ever cheaper mortgages.”

“Newt Gingrich was a willing, rented spokesman for the housing crisis that we’re now living through,” Will said.

Will is right here.

Will also chalked up Gingrich’s support of ethanol as one of his poor policy choices.

“Life’s full of close calls,” Will said. “Ethanol isn’t one of them.”

Will is right here too.

Why is it when I hear these inside the beltway pundits rip on anybody but “the chosen one” (Romney) I can’t help but picture the famous crying “Brittany Spears” guy on Youtube screaming, “Leave Romney alone! Leave him alone! It’s his turn! He earned the nomination, but all you haters want to do is steal it from him!”

Choke on it Will. You, and everyone else knows that Newt is the only candidate that will take on Obama TOE-TO-TOE and put him down flat. Romney cannot say a word about Obamacare since he too is a socialized medicine liberal.

And all the crap about amnesty. What is important is that Newt wants the BORDER CLOSED as step one, which must happen. Say what else you want. It does not matter.

Newt will never be the smartest man in the room, there will most likely be someone there about nine years old. That has the same type of me, me, me, me, me, ego.

George Will is also very Anti-Romney.

He is frustrated (rightly) that, ahead of a hugely important election against a weak incumbent, the GOP primary is coming down to Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Depressing.

George Will has written some pretty nasty things about Romney recently. It didn’t sound like he was a Romney-bot to me.

I’m no great fan of Newt’s, but George Will? As I say to my kids when the hypocrisy gets unbearable, “This from YOU of all people? Spare me!”

I am not thrilled about Newt as a candidate, but Newt threatens Will’s statist choice Mittens and that no matter who it is cannot be allowed to happen. Mittens is the nominee according to the elites or they will have a bloody meltdown.
