Dog Killers Convicted For Murdering Navy Seal Hero’s Beloved Companion
The Blaze ^ | 12-02-11 | Buck Sexton

Marcus Luttrell, a highly decorated Navy Seal and author of “Lone Survivor,” is still hurting three years after the murder of his beloved Yellow Labrador, DASY, by a group of thugs in Texas.

Today, Luttrell has received some measure of closure, as two of the perpetrators who shot and killed his beloved companion have been sentenced to prison time.

Luttrell, a true American hero who was the lone survivor from his fire team after an insurgent attack in Afghanistan, took the stand Thursday in the “cruelty to non-livestock animals trial” of Alfonso Hernandez, one of the two accused in the case.

Hernandez was found guilty of a state felony by a Walker County jury.

Another suspect, Michael Edmonds, pleaded guilty to the same state charge two days prior and admitted he was the one who fired the shot that killed DASY.

The night of the killing in April of 2009, Luttrell said he “heard a single gunshot, grabbed his pistol and ran next door to his mother’s residence to check on her. He then made his way down to the roadway, crawled underneath a fence and saw DASY had been shot.”

“I saw my dog in a ditch and two men standing outside the car,” Luttrell said, with his new service dog by his side on the stand. “I could hear them laughing.”

I don't know if anyone here has followed this story. This is one of the most heart breaking and disgusting crimes I heard about for some time. I am glad that this filth got jail time for this. It would have been even better if their sentence was 3 hours alone in a room with Luttrell.

I remember this story, though last I’d heard, no one had been arrested.

Horse-whipping is too good for those who would do this to a defenseless animal.

Would never say out loud what I would do to someone who pulled this crap on one of my beloved pooches....

It's been shown time and time again that anyone evil enough to kill or torture animals for fun is just one step from committing murder.

Her name is an acronym of the initials of Luttrell’s team members who were killed in the firefight he described in “Lone Survivor.”

Right thre! That's the line in the story where my eyes teared up too much too continue reading...

It's not a very Christian thought, I know, I kind of hope these dirt bags get shanked in prison.

Glad to see there’s justice for Dasy and Marcus Luttrell.

I have often said that when it comes to animal cruelty, the punishment should fit the crime with a fearsome and remoreless exactitude. Then we would see less of each.

I would have considered it justifiable homicide if he had offed them while they were standing in the road laughing.

In the comments on the Blaze one person talks of seeing Lutrell speak in person not long after this senseless act. He cam on stage and asked that everyone turn off their cell phones. Then he stood there silent for a long time looking around the room making eye contact with members of the audience and said, "Don't make me ask you again"

The room was instantly filled with the noise of people rustling through their pockets and purses to turn off heir phones.

Moral of this tale is >>>> Don’t mess with a war hero’s pooch. The law will show no mercy.

...murder of his beloved Yellow Labrador

So, now the Blaze has bought into PETA verbiage.

You cannot murder a dog since murder is the killing of another human being, especially with malice aforethought.

At least that's what my dictionary says.

To have this American Hero come home to piece his life back together after going through a hell very few men have ever conceived of only to have the key element to his rehabilitation killed like this really effected me too. More evidence that there is true evil in this world.

Someone needs to have a seal team do an op on these two animals and put them out of our misery.

Sorry to hear about Marcus Latrell’s loss.

You need to look closer into this story. There is some reason to refer to this in stark terms if you have all the facts. It is heartbreaking what happened to this Hero.

I read Marcus Luttrell’s book, and recommend it to anyone. Marcus and his SEAL colleagues are the only people capable of saving our sick Republic. Anyone who would shoot a Labrador, Golden, or other retriever cannot be trusted around human beings. More than once, one of these wonderful, loyal, gentle dogs has been slaughtered by cops making “mistaken” drug busts.

That looks like the little mutt that wandered up to my house about five years ago.

My daughter found it, bathed it and when we came home she said to look at the pup she had found.

I said, “Get me my gun and I’ll take care of it”. (just kidding).

The dog was laying in the chair, never moved, rolled those big eyes up at me and that tail beat a tattoo on the cushion.

I was hooked.

He is still with my daughter in her home.

I know exactly what the story is.

I just get tired of people misusing language to evoke a desired emotional response. Most people fall for it unfortunately.

What happened was a property crime, an abuse of an animal, and despicable.

It was not murder because a dog is not human, yet murder is the word that was used. Its use is clearly an effort to manipulate emotions and therefore comes dangerously close to being propaganda (PETA style).

So these guys are what, in your view, guilty of minor property crime? 25 dollar fine and have a nice day?

What crime, if any, do you think they committed and what do you think the penalty should be.

You fail to mention that in your boilerplate PETA slam.
