Last Sunday on "Meet the Press," historian Doris Kearns Goodwin urged President Obama to emulate Teddy Roosevelt in organizing his campaign around the theme of "a square deal, fundamental fairness" in America.

Today, the White House announced the president will try to do just that:

On Tuesday, December 6, President Obama will travel to Osawatomie, Kansas where he will deliver remarks on the economy. The President will talk about how he sees this as a make-or-break moment for the middle class and all those working to join it. He’ll lay out the choice we face between a country in which too few do well while too many struggle to get by, and one where we’re all in it together – where everyone engages in fair play, everyone does their fair share, and everyone gets a fair shot. Just over one hundred years ago, President Teddy Roosevelt came to Osawatomie

Teddy was against private property rights, private ownership. He said that all property should be available for public use; the right to take what property is needed for the public good.

Osawatomie, Kansas is home to the Kansas Mental Hospital. I can see where Obama is going with this visit. Probably going to check himself in for evaluation.

How about as the first plank in the Square deal, the Government (fed, state, local) can’t tax any one individual more than 1/3 of their income.

Don’t think you will see that in their Square Deal.

You’re right. I was just making a comment about Goodwin and how she loves FDR.

Doris Kearns Goodwin is a plagiarist, proven in court. I don’t know why anyone puts her on TV, or in print.

Some other presidential candidate at least campaigned on the “Square Deal” motto.

I think that came from Harry S Truman.

It may have gotten submerged in the Do-Nothing Congress theme of Harry S.

I have ready many books on TR.
TR had more accomplishments by age 23 than Obama will have in his entire life.
