Elementary school teacher tells kids there's no Santa Claus ( NY )
NEW YORK POST ^ | December 3, 2011 | TODD VENEZIA and JENNIFER BAIN

Posted on 12/04/2011 11:48:16 AM PST by george76

Even the Grinch would not be this mean.

A sourpuss teacher in Rockland County ruined Christmas for a class full of second-graders this week, when she told them that there is no Santa Claus during a lesson about the North Pole.

The evil educator even told the youngsters - mostly 7- and 8-year-olds - that the presents under their trees were put out by their parents, and not St. Nick.

The stunning Scrooge-like behavior has caused a blizzard of outrage at the quiet George W. Miller Elementary School in Nanuet, where angry parents would like to see the teacher roasted like a chestnut over an open fire.

...

school officials would not discuss the Christmas incident or say if the teacher would face any discipline

The teacher, protected under union rights, will probably sue the parents for making terroristic threats about arson.

Agreed. I think Christmas is about Jesus Christ, not Santa Claus. That having been said, I think parents are free to teach their children whatever they want, but I disagree with teaching children that there is a Santa Claus. If you don’t want someone telling a kid something contrary to what you want them to be taught, don’t ship them to a government school/indoctrination camp and abdicate an important portion of your parental responsibility.

In any event, I have no problem with a teacher telling children that Santa Claus doesn’t exist. He doesn’t. So why make a big deal out of someone telling the truth, rather than perpetuate an Anti-Christian lie? I dunno, but I’m sure someone will flame about it.

THIS is an example of what “educators” do....talk/teach about things they have NO Responsibility for doing....I don’t care how YOU feel about it...what the heck is a teacher doing even talking about it....stick to the Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

Absolutely. The sooner we can kill the imagination, dreams and innocence in our children, the better off they will be.

And by golly, it’s the unionized state teachers that get paid to tell our kids what to believe and not to believe. Those damn parents have no business in interfering with the proper upbringing of our children.

Bottom line... when the children of today grow up, they will quickly find out how much their lives suck, so the sooner we can destroy their childish minds, the sooner they can join with those that hate the world.

Maybe so, but it’s not your place or hers to make decision for a family. I have a 26 year old Marine when he gets to come home for Christmas he still writes a letter to Santa, leaves cookies & milk and hides the baby Jesus to lay in the manger on Christmas morning. He knows Santa isn’t real (he was a late bloomer and I think he was 8 before we told him and even then he was pissed at us) but he loves his traditions. Damned if Santa doesn’t write him back. I put them in hour family scrapbook along with the pictures for that year.

He’s a very grounded individual and always has been. It hurt no one for him to believe in Santa longer than your kids or anyone else’s did. We simply refused to let him move through childhood at an unnatural pace. Right before he and his best friend enlisted they used to go out running around the property with swords being a live action video game. I supposed that’s wrong too. I simply don’t see the point of allowing children (or adults) to continue a tradition they enjoy.

Obama should have a televised statement just prior to Christmas Eve, have all the parents bring their kids to the TV and inform them all, Santa is not real, tell um it's just a myth created by evil white people.

If, as a parent, you are lucky enough to have your child not admit that they know, it is NOT the responsibility of the teacher to purposely spoil the mystery. Children are being stripped of their innocence at such an early age these days. Don’t go and spoil it. I recall “finding” my presents at approximately that age. Trying to act surprised was impossible and I was so mortified.

Okay, fine, tell the truth about Santa Claus if you must. But make sure you also tell the truth about labor unions too. The myth of the benevolent labor union is a lie propagated by unionized teachers for generations now, and is far more insidious in my view.

I had my suspicions at that age. And my dad sought to confirm them, saying “Santa wouldn’t even be able to get to every house in Lansing in one night!”

To which I replied, “Doesn’t bother me, long as he starts at the south end of town!”

Do you understand who St. Nicholas was, and why he was given sainthood by the Catholic church? And no, I’m not a Catholic. I’m a Southern Baptist boy who was raised by parents who let me believe in Santa Claus, and we allowed our children to believe in Santa Claus. And we think Christianer-than-thou people are sadly misguided. And some Christianer-than-thou people seem to believe that allowing children to believe in Santa Claus are anti-Christians. How very pathetic.

No need to call yourself pathetic. St. Nicholas doesn’t live at the North Pole. a lie is a sin, and, Anti-Christian. When the memorial to Christ’s birth becomes something other than a memorial about Christ’s birth, it doesn’t interest me. Children aren’t born believeing in Santa Claus, someone has to lie to them, in order to “allow them to believe in Santa Claus.” You may lie to your kids, how pathetic. I don’t.

Wow, one of the reasons Freepers cited your membership date is that folks who think it's governments job to debunk Santa Claus, the Holy (it's not Holly, but cute joke) Ghost and Mormons beliefs are rare. Personally I don't think it's any of the teacher's da*n business if second graders believe in Santa Claus.

THE DEFINITIVE answer to the question:

DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’
Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

VIRGINIA O’HANLON.
115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.”
********
VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.
