Good comment about drug cartel corruption in the US, Tupelo.

Drug criminalization's inflation of drug profits is what gave the cartels the means to corrupt those in high places.

Corruption only leaves when you address the corrupt with the rule of law. Take away one tool of corruption (drug money) and corrupt officials will just move on to another lucrative tool of corruption.

Certainly corrupt officials must be watched for and prosecuted. But we'll never get rid of them all, so there has to be another front - namely, ceasing to provide those who have a motive to corrupt corruptible officials with the means to do so. Drug criminalization provides those who have a motive to corrupt corruptible officials with the means to do so.
