Chrysler Group LLC confirmed today that its new small car, the first vehicle to feature Fiat SpA (F.MI) technology, will be called the Dodge Dart.
The car, in production at the automaker's assembly plant in Belvidere, Ill., will be featured in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
With this vehicle, Chrysler will have a small-car offering in its portfolio for the first time in more than a decade. The car also will allow majority stakeholder Fiat to raise its stake in Chrysler by 5 percentage points to 58.3 percent once it is certified by the U.S. government as delivering 30 miles per gallon.
The car will be built on the underpinnings adapted from Fiat's Alfa Romeo Giulietta. A price wasn't disclosed.

ran forever. I'm betting this one won't unless fix it again Tony comes with it.
I’m considering the 2012 Beetle.
Sue me. I like retro styling.

Not your dad's Dart....

The slant six, along with the 318, were some of the best engines Detroit ever produced as far as reliability goes IMHO. (old mopar owner/lover)
It would press you back in the seat so hard you couldn't lean forward if you tried when you ‘got on it’.
145 MPH with no problem.

When it goes on sale in the spring of 2010, the Giulietta will be offered with a choice of two gas burning engines. The first is the 1.4TB making 120 HP and the 1.4TB MultiAir that cranks out a total of 170 HP. There will also be two alternatively fueled diesel engines, the 1.6 JTDM pumping out 105 HP and the 2.0 JTDM that makes 170 HP, both belonging to FIATs second generation JTDM, turbo diesel engines. The top of the line Giulietta will be the 1750 TBi that develops a maximum output of 235 HP and will come with Alfas racy Quadrifoglio Verde trim package.
They should call the 235 hp version the "Tough Dart"
The first car I ever bought NEW was a 1967 Dodge Dart GTS V8. Great fun.
I had a `72 Dodge truck with a 318 and a 4 speed stick with granny gear. I pulled shrubs and small trees out of the ground with it and a chain. Re-built the carb, no extra pieces left over on the kitchen table, wife didn’t leave me. Worked out great!
My first car was a ‘74 Dart with a 318, 4 speed and dual exhaust. Wish I still had that car.
mine had the AT,slant six, and enough bondo to fill a pool.
Yeah, I had 'em both too. And their 440 wasn't bad either. I had that in a beautiful 1966 Charger.
4 speed, completely stock motor. The car was red, with a white leather interior. Its instrument panel had a beautiful, greenish luminescent glow.

I loved that car!!
On second thought - I’m tempted - if I can buy the girl with it! ;-)
Growing up I had a ‘67 Coronet 318 2 door, then a ‘68 Coronet 4 door (mint shape, man I miss that car), then a ‘76 Plymouth Gran Fury 4 door with the 318, but it had a 3 on the tree also. First gear would blow the motor at about 30, but the thing would put down a strip of rubber just as long as you wanted to step on the gas.

It’s better to lease.
The first car I had was a ‘68 Peugeot 404.
I DO NOT miss that car.
There’s a car in that picture?
"beep-beep", "beep-beep", His horn went "beep-beep-beep"

They can call the new one the Dodge Fart. Goes along with the Chevy Dolt.
I wanted a Charger, but got a good deal on the ‘67 Coronet. It had the 318 in it, three speed manual on the tree and no power anything.
I think I would trade almost any newer car I have for that simple, beautiful car again. It was stolen and stripped, guy told me that the front fenders were interchangeable with the Charger and they rusted out above the front wheels so bad they were on the “hot list” of parts stolen that year.
LOL, no one misses that car...
If anyone is interested in a 71 Dart 2 dr w/a 225 i have one in Ellijay Ga I am now officially NOT going to restore.
Freepmail me.
I think I'll just cross de street.
Damn, that looks familiar! But I still can’t recall what it was. One of the ugliest cars on the road along with the Plymouth Fury back in the 1970’s . . . and the competition was pretty keen for that title at the time.

Great cars.
LOL bondo
I wouldn’t call it retro.
I have a 1965 Dodge Dart, 2-door post with a slant 6. Also have another one, same color, 4 door with a BITCHIN 318 in it. We bought the 4 door for the body parts (front end, quarter panels, better chrome) and had no idea at the time how nice the engine in it was. Now the quandary is do we put the 318 in the two door, or do we stay with the slant 6 for the mileage? Either way, I LOVE MY DART. The license plate says ‘NO HEMI’ and I get a LOT of smiles, and a lot of comments on my car, even tho it’s not quite ‘fixed up’ yet. We’ve never seen another 2 door post on the road.
not in my budget, but it would be fun.
thanks anyway.
Traded around for one like that, but someone had swapped in a built 440 with Max Wedge heads and a single 4V intake.
I stuck some small slicks under it and cracked the back glass leaving the line at the strip........
It really needed a six point cage.
Traded it off.
I owned a 1963 Dart with the smaller slant-banger and push-button automatic. It had to be parked level or facing downward or you couldn’t get it out of Park...25 MPG plus one quart every 100 miles, and anything in the trunk was liable to get soaked.
What a great car.
Now THAT was one ugly automobile. Not as ugly as the Citroen, but close.
1.4TB Engine ??? I know the “L” typically is Liter - what’s the TB: Tablespoon?

Surprisingly if you put the 318 in it and keep the small 2 bbl carb you won’t see that much difference in mileage than with the slant six I’ve found.
Of course that’s if you keep your foot out of it, which was and still is my biggest problem... :)
sounds niiiiice
Dodge shipped 383-spec Darts (minus powertrain) along with factory-prepped 440 engines to Hurst-Campbell, Inc., a Michigan aftermarket company. Hurst-Campbell did the conversion, Dodge reps inspected it, and the cars were forwarded to Grand Spaulding Auto Sales in Chicago, a performance-oriented Dodge dealer. These cars got vehicle identification numbers but were not covered by the factory warranty.
I thought there already was a dodge dart in the past.
How ORIGINAL!!!
They better shoehorn the Hemi in it.
My dream car is a 1965 Dart GT convertible, cream/black/red with the 273 or 318 and a Hurst 4 speed.
Yes, a car and a clotheshanger in need of a cheeseburger.
Yeah, do that. Step on the gas and the torque will be so high that the engine will fly out the front end. :>)
Alfa Romeo has some very nice looking vehicles these days, none imported to the US but that is likely to change.
Despite the sort of jarring notion of basing a Dodge Dart on an Alfa, it’ll probably work if the reliability and build quality are there.
Given the two parties involved, Fiat and Chrysler, that will be the big question.
