A Christmas display outside the courthouse in Leesburg, VA featuring Santa Claus crucified on a cross was torn down by an angry resident in spite of arguments by elected leaders that the display was Constitutionally-protected free speech.

“I am shocked that the county would allow such a thing as a crucified Santa on the courthouse lawn,” Elizabeth McGuirk, a mother of three told Leesburg Today. She it would “seriously disturb my children.”

On the Courthouse lawn?!?!?!?!?!??!

Unbelievable. Not civilized. Good for that mother for tearing it down. It deserves to be torn down. Would think the people of Va would have better sense.......oh wait, Tim Kaine was their governor. What ever has happened to Va?

Good for the mom. Seems to me that if putting up a cross and hanging Santa Claus on it constitutes “speech” that is protected, then the act of tearing the same thing down is equally “speech” and must also be protected. I don’t see how one can constitute speech (or freedom of expression or whatever you want to call it) without the equal and opposite thing also being the same. To deny this would be like saying “yes” is speech but not “no.”

A CROSS on the courthouse lawn?
Does that mean a manger scene is allowed now, too?

I’m sure if it was an effigy of Martin Luther King or perhaps Obama, there would be no problem with it also.

After all, it’s all free speech.

Over the last decade-and-a-half (approximately) Leesburg, Virginia, and Loudoun County, have been become bastions of democrat/liberal BS ‘values’ (too many Yankee ‘immigrants’)

Most of the native Virginians I know consider Loudoun to be part of “Northern Virginia”, and therefore more akin to Maryland than the “Old Dominion”.

Woe to those that call Evil good and good evil. as it is written. There can be no good come from the Government calling protected speech that which is anti-Christian -and
thereby un-American.No doubt it was the brainchild of some
Atheist.

Let them put up the crucified Santa. Then demand the right to put up a crucified Jesus to mark Good Friday. If the county refuses, they’ll be discriminating on the basis of the content of the message. Tangle the govt and the ACLU in their own internal contradictions.

So “hate speech” is protected when it is against Christians? What do you suppose would happen if it was Mohammed in a display like that? The churches in the area need to get together and sue the county for religious discrimination.

Free speech? How about a “piss-mohammed” made out of elephant dung with maggots crawling all over it and fried bacon as a base for Eid? After all, it’s only free speech?

Thought I could avoid it this year but it's clearly the case that the modern "Santa Claus" with his typical red with white trim costuming, and rotundness, is modeled after "Little Red Man", also known as Amanita Muscaria, a mildly hallucinogenic mushroom best known in the good old days as SOMA.

Much of the rest of the story, e.g. reindeer, climbing down chimneys, a large bag full of gifts, etc. derives directly from Sa'ami culture in the Sapma', a large area stretching from Norway, through Sweden and Finland into Russia, where people strive against the elements and the Midnight Sun to eke out a living.

I take the crucifixion of Santa Claus to be the sort of "hate crime" and threat against those of Sa'ami ancestry that should put the perpetrators into prison for a very long time ~ or at least the hospital.

My favorite progenitor of nearly the same Sa'ami culture was a Finn named Simo Häyhä who served as a sniper during the Russian invasion of Finland in the Winter War of 1939/40.

He killed at least 500 and maybe as many as 900 Russian troops ~ SINGLEHANDEDLY.

The people crucifying Santa had best watch out because that's what could happen if they don't get right with God and get out of town.

So, the crucified Santa is OK for the courthouse, then conversely, why are the 10 Commandments displayed at courthouses and other city buildings in hot dispute? Shouldn’t those be deemed freedom of speech/expression as well?

I say that in this case, put the freedom of speech/expression to the test....set up a nativity scene right next to the crucified Santa and see what happens.
