Rick Perry Says Human Rights for Gays ‘Not in America’s Interests’
ABC ^ | December 6, 2011 | Arlette Saenz

Posted on 12/06/2011 1:41:04 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said today that using foreign aid to combat human rights abuses against homosexuals in foreign countries is “not in America’s interests” and attacked President Obama’s decision to require U.S. agencies operating abroad to promote equal rights for gays as part of the administration’s “war on traditional American values.”

“Just when you thought Barack Obama couldn’t get any more out of touch with America’s values, AP reports his administration wants to make foreign aid decisions based on gay rights. This administration’s war on traditional American values must stop,” Perry said in the statement. “Promoting special rights for gays in foreign countries is not in America’s interests and not worth a dime of taxpayers’ money.”

Perry moved beyond the national security implications of the decision and honed in on what he deemed to be an attack on “traditional American values.”

“But there is a troubling trend here beyond the national security nonsense inherent in this silly idea,” he said. “This is just the most recent example of an administration at war with people of faith in this country. Investing tax dollars promoting a lifestyle many [Americans] of faith find so deeply objectionable is wrong. President Obama has again mistaken America’s tolerance for different lifestyles with an endorsement of those lifestyles. I will not make that mistake.”

1- not the smartest statement by Perry...

2- this is also another example of the criminal liberal media shilling for the rats as the title has little to do with Perry’s statement...

Are you saying that Perry is absolutely right in that aid to Muslim nations in the Middle East should not be decreased?

I must have missed that in his statement. Maybe you could point it out to me.

He won’t like me saying this, but 2ndDivisionVet is a disabled veteran with a very ill wife. Those of us who know him well, know this and pray for him and his family.

Basically, that is what is wrong with him.

Please give it a rest. His signing the in-state bill was symbolic as it passed 178-3 and was veto proof. That said, thank you for your service.

Neither is letting parasite illegals suck dry our economy, but he doesn’t seem to have a problem with that.

Not an original thought among you Perry haters, instead you make things up. Your statement is blatantly untrue and Perry is on the record innumerable times to the contrary. Take your gripe to the Feds where it belongs. Better yet why don't you and your posse go to the border and help the Governor since Obama won't?

Don’t you find it odd that Rick Perry opposes the cutting off of aid to Muslim nations in the Middle East?

Put up proof or retract.

At this juncture, I will gladly take Perry and his weak immigration stance over Newts outright Progressivism and Mittens lies. As far as I am concerned, all I have left to root for in this race are Santorum, Bachmann and Perry. All the rest make me ill.

Yeah, they write it up like Perry is saying we should support nations that execute people for being gay.

What Perry should have said (there's a phrase that never gets old...) is "we need to stop sending foreign aid to any and all third world barbaric nations, and not tie it to any sort of national behavior modification programs. This announcement is a meaningless sop to a constituency President Obama feels obligated to placate with symbolic fluff."

[ Gays have “Human Rights” just like everyone else.

What they want is to have special treatment because of their sexual practices. That is ridiculous.

This is part of the spin and euphemism used by leftists and the media. ]

Ok, I see, Rick Perry wants to give lots of foreign aid to Islamic nations in the Middle East who abuse the rights of gays by throwing them in prison and violently crack down on gay gatherings, but are also strong allies of the United States?

Can who name one of these Islamic nations in the Middle East who abuse the rights of homosexuals, but are strong allies of the United States?

I bet that neither, you or Gov. Perry can name such a nation.

So therefore, Rick Perry is once again talking nonsense.

Again, please name the nations that Obama has threatened to decrease aid and Rick Perry opposes a decrease of US tax payer aid to these nations.

OBAMA: “I am deeply concerned by the violence and discrimination targeting LGBT persons around the world — whether it is passing laws that criminalize LGBT status, beating citizens simply for joining peaceful LGBT pride celebrations, or killing men, women, and children for their perceived sexual orientation,” President Obama wrote in a memorandum with his name attached. “Under my Administration, agencies engaged abroad have already begun taking action to promote the fundamental human rights of LGBT persons everywhere.”

Obama didn't say Islamic nations. If you want an example, Russia beats gays that gather to demonstrate.

I can smell his desparation all the way down here.

I think you're actually smelling your own reflux. Try staying off the Perry threads if you have so much hatred for him. BTW...it might be to your advantage if you actually tell the truth.

I personally don’t think that was a personal attack. I think the poster was directing that towards 2ndDiv’s objection to Perry. I have never noted that Cincinatus ever got personal on any of these Perry threads even though she gets hit pretty hard.

Pull the plug, Ricardo.

It's Rick, and he's not a quitter. You must be confusing him with the candidates you preferred. They were the plug pullers.
