I wonder if she visited any Churches or private charities in the area? I bet they would have found a way to help if it was primarily a food/hunger issue, especially with children involved.

This is so horrible; those poor kids! The mother was obviously mentally ill and the system failed. What else is new? P.S. Where is the father?
It sounds like she was nuts. If not certifiable, she evidently went around the bend.
Moved from Ohio to Texas. Applied for food stamps. Didn’t give all the necessary information. Waited for two months to visit the welfare office again, and brought the gun with her.
I could sympathize somewhat if she had tried and tried to get through the bureaucratic hoops, because I know how hard that can be. First time I applied for social security at the local office, I got the wrong bureaucrat, spent hours, and went nowhere.
I went in again, got the right bureaucrat, and everything went fine. But most of us are familiar enough with the system to know you just have to keep trying. Evidently this woman didn’t.
