Their counter-argument is that once you register to vote by presenting ID, you shouldn’t have to re-present it at the time of voting. Slows things down; creates extra bureaucracy, etc., etc.....
You did register.
Then you present you ID so the nice old ladies know that you are the same person that registered under that name.
