It’s the last thing two burglary suspects expected to hear when they broke into a Coon Rapids home. From within the house came the unmistakable sound of a pump shotgun. At the other end of that gun was a 22-year-old woman who is nine weeks pregnant.
The young woman asked not to be identified because the two suspects are still at large. However, she says when the men ignored her barking pit bull and black lab, and broke through a kitchen door, she had no other choice but to chamber a round into the 12-gauge shotgun.
There’s perhaps no other sound that commands as much respect and fear. The young woman at the business end of that gun was home alone and prepared to protect herself.

I’ve always told my wife that if I’m ever not around and she’s not comfortable whipping out one of the hand guns then she should grab the 870 and give it a pump.
i don’t suggest she should have shot them, but that would make it harder for them come back or be on the loose still........
Yep. And the shotgun would be more effective if kept with a shell in the chamber and the safety on. Way I see it, muzzle flash is appropriate warning for a burglar.

Maybe they couldn’t see the dogs or they just don’t know a Pit bull to look at it. But I would not want to break in to a house being guarded by a pit bull. May be it was not the shot gun that made them turn around. Maybe they saw the pit bull and turned tail.

I have a Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge with an 18 1/2” barrel next to my bed. I keep it loaded with five 00 shells in the magazine but none in the chamber. That’s because I want the intruder to hear that pump without me wasting a shell.
It’s also safer for me.

All the wife has to do is press the go button from right to left before placing the finger on the trigger.

The one downside to this is if they are armed you may give your position away and they get a couple shots off toward you.
