A bar owner turns the tables on an armed man demanding money.
The robber was captured.
One employee says she's convinced the would-be robber would have shot and killed someone, if his gun had been real.
"They were on the ground and that's when I was kind of like wow," Kathy Morley said. "And I just keep looking at him and he's pointing that gun at everybody."
Morley was just about to lock up at the Time Clock Lounge at 90th & L around 1:30 AM Sunday when the robber entered.
"It was only like a minute or some thing but it did go in slow motion because you could just see him coming in and moving by the tables and coming toward the bar," she said.
Morley knew what was coming when she looked over at bar owner Scot Mass.
"And was like hurry...hurry up whatever you are doing I see what you are doing behind the bar," she said.
The robber approached the bar where Mass was standing.
"And Scottie just pulled a gun on him and he just freaked out and he ran into the wall and jumped over the railing and got out the door and the next thing you knew they're just chasing him."
Mass and two customers quickly tackled the robber and held him for police.
"It was crazy that's all I can say, I mean our adrenaline was going and I was just like shocked," Morley said. "It took my breath away for a minute or two."
Police arrested 35-year-old Robert S. Gallagher, Jr.
As for his weapon, it was an air gun.
No one in the bar knew that at the time.
Kathy says it didn't change anything.
"It made me nervous because I have kids I have grand babies and you just kind of don't know," she said. "You just don't know."
A check of Gallagher's background shows he was released from prison last July.
He served time for robbery and burglary convictions.
Gun safety experts say chasing after a suspect is never a good idea.
"A, they were taking their own lives into their hands because they had no idea if he had friends or acquaintances outside that may have also been armed and B, had this guy been shot, they would have been shooting him on the offensive...there's no defense for that," he said.
While this incident ended without anyone getting hurt, Omaha Police say it is always best to let them handle the situation when that imminent danger of bodily harm has passed.
Incidentally, Mass has all the legal papers to carry a weapon.
Now where did I put those fake bullets.................?
“Gun Safety Experts say”, then they would have been just as guilty if they beat the crap out of him. If he's still in the establishment and “armed” he's dangerous and still in play.
That's like saying a Swat Team would be guilty if they shoot someone because they shot someone while on the offensive.
We need to end the nanny state thinking of leave it to the police.
An air gun is not a fake gun when used in the commission of a crime or felony. Felons can not possess one. No fake guns were hurt in the production of this felony.
bein as tho gubmint derives its powers from the consent of the citizenry, obviously they, the po-po, *should* have the restrictions, if anyone does...
bad guys dont get the benefit of the doubt...
We need to end this government over control.
An airgun is not a fake gun — some higher end ones to have the power to kill.
