I would be hard pressed to find a better set of photos for the top 45.

Thanks for posting.

I think that is the only picture I would not have included in the list.

Recall the iconic photo of NY firemen raising the flag over a smoldering Ground Zero was picked as the SECOND most powerful photo of that year, behind some random placeholder.

The press long-ago stopped pretending they're doing anything but trying to destroy the old fabric of US culture.

I would rather the "Most Powerful 45 images of 2011."

I'll start with the Colt 100th Anniversary Model 1911.

Judging by the most common images here it would appear the Buzzfeed people think anti capitalist riots were the singular event of the year.

I would've picked differently.

As someone who makes a living making pictures, this is one of the weakest bunch of POY collections I’ve seen in a long time.

I often think back of 911 when I driving in LA, seeing thousands dressed in their Muslim garb speaking in foreign languages.

I called the White to complain, and got press 1 for English.

Interesting irony in Pic 45 - the solider if FEMALE.

Look at the pic and think it through about the differences between our nation and theirs.

Not for nuthin....that random placeholder photo was of the people bailing out of the towers.

Not exactly a throw away photo.

The most powerful image in my mind from this year is the destruction to Tuscaloosa, AL, from the April 27 tornado that hit. I was there in August, and though a lot of clean-up had been done, I was shocked at the destruction. It was surreal to see the path of destruction. Much more shocking in person than in photos.

This photograph makes me cry every time, and the video was just as touching. Man’s best friend, indeed.

Because Texas didn't vote for him. Here's the sky in Austin 30 miles west of Bastrop. Smoke and haze went for hundreds of miles. That and other fires could be seen on satellite.

How sad to see this collection...
Focus was on War, Nature and Perverts
I like the composition of #33 and the lonliness and massive damage, the juxtaposition of a guy in a suit, Ipod with drought and starvation in #38, #30, #27 and #45 are also great

The rest are ok as the depict events but really ho-hum photogrpahs and I hate the sick perverts being in there.
