RUSH: Here's Boone Pickens. He was on MSNBC this morning on Scarborough's show. They had a discussion about Obama's speech. Scarborough said, "You have a question about the president's speech? What's your question about it?"
PICKENS: The president is confusing me. Every time he's on TV he says that the rich should pay their fair share. I don't know what "fair share" is. That's what's bothering me. I always want to be fair, and historically I've been a very fair guy. I'm 83. I still go to work in the morning at eight o'clock. I have 150 people work for me, and someplace in here I feel like I'm letting the country down.
RUSH: No, you don't feel like you're letting the country down, Boone. You're being told that you're letting the country down. You're being told that it's unfair. You're being told that you are behaving improperly. Scarborough said, "Warren Buffett pays like 18%, 17% of what he makes in taxes. Is that fair? Should he pay 35%? What should he pay?"
PICKENS: After I was 70 years old, I paid $665 million in taxes. Is that fair?
BRZEZINSKI: (snickering) I don't know how much you made, Mr. Pickens. (giggling) Why don't you give me the full numbers?
PICKENS: You feel like I'm not paying my fair share, after $665 million and I'm over 70 years old?
BRZEZINSKI: (snickering) Sir, with all due respect --
PICKENS: Okay.
SCARBOROUGH: That's pretty good.
BRZEZINSKI: -- it depends on what you make.
RUSH: "It depends on what you make." "With all due respect, sir, it depends on what you make." Our good old buddies at NBC. Boone Pickens paid $665 million in taxes in the last 13 years -- just since he turned 70 -- and that is not enough, not enough to determine whether or not it was fair. See, because we don't know how much he made -- and unless he admits how much he made, then we can't possibly determine whether or not it's fair. In other words, he may have to pay more just so these schlubs on this worthless network can be satisfied.

T. Boone Pickens Has Paid $665 Million in Income Taxes Since Age 70 and It's Not Enough for Mika Brzezinski
The reporter is right, without knowing more numbers we don’t know if that was high or low.
Why should he pay more in taxes just because he makes a lot of money?
I’m not saying he should or should not pay more, just that we don’t have enough facts to put the number he offered up in context.
Do the people he employs pay taxes? How about the people whose companies and jobs wouldn’t exist but for his investments? What about all of us who benefit indirectly from those investments, in the form of the greatest energy infrastructure in the world?
Would Mika have preferred he’d have invested that money in Dubai?
What’s a good man like TBP doing talking to the whores at MSNBC anyway?
i used to love Rush’s commercial announcement “it’s 12noon, time for welfare recipients to get out of bed” i haven’t heard it in a while, though.
They can stay in bed, because of people like Mr. Pickens.
Wow. I AM SO FREAKIN’ SICK OF THIS VITRIOLIC SOCIALIST CLASS WARFARE!!!!
Watching GBTV this afternoon... and Glenn named the show...”Watch Glenn’s Head Explode” as he plays back the Presidents “Fair Share” crap speech.
I paid more than most people make in year and I get up everyday , put my shoulder to the millstone and work hard all day.
I do it because millions of people who are welfare queens depend on me.
And FU if it ain’t fair. I could care less what they canthink. No go eat yer peas....
.
Free loading , fat jazz, intellectual amputees.
How many billions did he get in subsidies for his failed wind power “Pickens plan”?
Methinks Pickens is ahead of the game.
Overpaid, no-brain leftist idiots making huge salaries (for talking on TV), living like kings in the greatest country in the world and wanting to see it all disappear in the name of 'fairness'....with folks like them- authoritarian, Marxist fools - in charge, of course. God help us.
This is one of the most insipid converstaions I’ve ever had the displeasure of hearing. Scarborough and Mika are actually telling Boone that once they get all the figures THEY will determine what Boone gets to keep and IF he paid enough in taxes. Unreal! Cuba, China, Russia makes sense. This is happening in the US!?
And a question MIGHT be: What did he get in return for his >$600MM in taxes?
Does he use any of the services he paid for? If so, what percentage of those services’ costs did he pay for? Is it equitable?
And of the folks who received services that he contributed to, what percentage did THEY contribute?
If you’ve paid >$600 million dollars in taxes and don’t use an appreciable amount of the services paid for by those dollars, why does it matter what one has made? How much SHOULD one pay in before it doesn’t matter how much one made?
And how much should the folks getting the services pay in? Anything at all? Or does that even matter?

You've just had a peek into the mind of a socialist who wants to control you. They are our betters, you see, and we should just submit to their vast superior intellect.....
I don’t think that’s a bad point to make.
Considering the government should not be stealing much of our money at all, I still think Pickens has paid enough.
It’s certainly true his business shouldn’t have been getting public funds, along the same lines. And if his tax payments didn’t pay back more than his business got, I’d like to see him make full restitution, and somewhat more.
I know that’s sort of having it both ways, but it seem reasoned. I don’t want anyone being taxed heavily. I don’t want the government to hand out what tax dollars it gets, the manner they did to Picken’s business.
BS. You are saying he didn't pay enough. The fact is 665 million bucks doesn't have to be put into context. That is plenty of taxes over a short period of time regardless of how much he made. The truth of the matter, one that liberals don't want to face, is that if a millionaire pays 10% of a million he is paying the same tax rate as a person who makes 20,000 per year and pays 10%(10% not being a real tax rate but I am using it for an example). 10% of one million is a he** of a lot more than 10% of 20,000. There should be no progressive income tax, in fact there should be no income tax at all. Things ran just fine in this country for over 100 years without one until the people stupidly allowed a constitutional amendment to "tax the rich people's income" which rapidly became a tax on every one's income.
The answer is easy: to paraphrase the old CCR song, when Pickens asks, how much he should pay, Obama's only answer is "more, more, more, more."
Hadn’t thought of that angle. Well put!
Call me crazy, but I think we should be grateful to any old duffer who makes so much money after age 70 that he’s paid in $655M in tax.
Cause what ever he’s making, it’s employing people who are supporting their families and also paying taxes.
He could just quit making money and play golf until he dies.
I am not a millionaire and probably will never be one. But if a millionaire or billionaire made his or her money without relying on crony capitalism, I say God Bless them. According to the Dems, I am one of those dumb, ignorant middle class people who don’t realize that I should demand that the rich pay every single penny of their income above $200,000 to the government so that the government can turn around and give me a handout. Or allow me to live off the public teet. I guess I’ll never learn. Or I’m a racist. One of the two.
Hold on just a freaking minute. TBP is a highly successful guy who has paid well over a half a billion dollars in taxes, yet he goes on a show with a bunch of leftist talking heads to whine about whether its ENOUGH? What kind of Texan publically whines about his uncertainty regarding his HUGE tax bill? I used to have a great deal of respect for this man until he began groveling to Obama’s rhetoric and the Occupy parasites. He sounded like a broken man I wonder how many others may also fold rather than fight the leftist horde.
It is clear what I am saying so quit putting words in my keyboard. I don’t care much for the progressive tax either because if 10% is enough for God, it should be enough for the gov but progressive is what we have. How it worked for 100 years before the income tax was tariffs, and we know how folks around here hate that. The fact of the matter is, we have a bloated gov involved in everything from social engineering to worthless wars and it has to be funded somehow or cut. The problem is folks want more than they are willing to pay for, on both sides of the isle.
Pickens threw the number out there and did not provide enough information to show how he is or is not being screwed. I don’t care if he is 100, if he is raking in billions, then yes, in the current system he is paying millions.
he should have said....”I make a lot less than G.E. makes”
Why don't you rail about GE, Mika?
Until Mika reveals her taxes and income she does not have a right to ask someone else how much they make and tax they pay.
The progressive tax system is NOT FAIRNESS. Fairness is everyone being taxes at the same PERCENTAGE of their income. THAT is the epitome of fairness. Just because one person has more than he needs is not justification to take it from him.
“he should have said....I make a lot less than G.E. makes
He wasn’t there to defend himself, he went looking for approval since he felt guilty that he might not be paying his fair share. Pathetic and frightening at the same time.
Same here. Had an argument with a co-worker today, he was complaining about healthcare company CEO’s making tens of millions and yet his premiums kept going up. I asked him how much he made, he said it was none of my business. I said, well it’s too much, I think someone should just arbitrarily decide how much he makes to somehow make it ‘fair’. Argued on about it... still didn’t see the light.
Boone, when you are down to a tent, a backpack some stinky clothes things will be just right.
And I see some class envy in the comments even here on FR. Disgusting.
WHAT should he pay more FOR??? NO ONE asks that question. What do they "need" the money for? And, another thing, the rich ARE paying their fair share already! Aren't the the ones that are creating jobs and hiring people, and PAYING those people?? The government isn't - the rich are. So, they ARE paing their fair share!
“If I were T. Boone I would have answered I paid more % in taxes...”
yea, I wondered why he did not give a percentage either, but msnbc would probably not have been happy if it was under 50% or something. I agree with other posters though, this class warfare is not getting the country anywhere. And once the economy gets better, it will die down just like the immigration debate usually does.
As far as I am concerned; he can keep his $665 million...he can put it to better use than those satanic thieves in Washington.
Mika is paid to sit there and look like a pretty MILF. No brains required, so it is impossible for her to understand that others have to actually produce something for their money.
Dam straight. I get confused for the little BS things I have pay. tax here, fee there, not allowed.
He’ll, it costs a lot of loot just trying to pay what they demand from me.
I swear some days I wanna chuck it and just not get out of bed, til I feel like it.

Listen closly to T. Boone Pickens at a forum in East Hartford, CT hosted by Rep. John Larson, D 1st CD.
The wind blows free, but the taxpayer foots the bill for the spin.
This was two years ago.
Add up all the graft and fraud paid out since then!!
T Boned Chickens doesn't seem to fit in that category:

Why should anyone be taxed at a higher percentage rate than another? To me this is not fair (and I'm not anywhere in the same universe as the top one percent of wage earners).
I'm one of the 53 percent that has paid income tax for the last 48 years. I even paid tax when I made 65 cents per hour for a 40 hour week. Russia rebounded from communism by passing a flat tax, why not us. Of course I would really prefer the Fair Tax.
Well put. Bill Gates pays billions in taxes, so that the government can build roads, run schools, pay policemen and firemen, and provide $ for the needy. But what does he get for his billions? He probably never uses the police, or calls the fire dept. His kids go to private schools, and he can’t possibly use all of the highways he’s paid for. Other people benefit from HIS taxes. If liberals got their way, and took all of Gates’ or Picken’s money, there’d be no money for any of their pet projects the very next year. They don’t grasp the concept of killing the golden goose.
I find it interesting that the liberals only complain about rich business people not paying their “fair share.” Yet they NEVER complain about actors or pro sport athletes shirking their tax responsibility. Somehow those two pet constituencies are exempt from the criticism.
Congress gives your money to T. Boone Pickens [Green scam alert]
