Army Navy Week Thread (Vanity)
Vanity | 8 December | Self

Posted on 12/08/2011 7:40:13 AM PST by chargers fan

Alright it's that time of year again. Here's a place for old grads of both schools and fans of the game to gather, talk about past games, and talk a little trash.

Side note: Over the past years these threads have gotten a little Navy heavy. Come on Army folks, I know there has to be some of you on FR.

Ah, but see, I view this as a school vs school contest ...

In much the same way as I cheer for the USNA when they play Notre Dame, Tulane, Central Michigan (even though I'm from Michigan), etc, etc, I have to go with the USNA over the WooPoos of Hades on the Hudson.

Now, when unit/organization teams play each other, I cheer for the Army ... like, if an Army team from Fort Hood played a Navy Team from Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi, then I'm all out for the Army.

So, even though I didn't complete my time at the old Squid School, I still enjoyed my time there and dearly love to support it, especially against the Black Kanigits.

The vacationer-in-chief won’t attend the game. I’d be very surprised if he gave a crap!

Go Navy!

As long as the CinC Trophy stays in its natural habitat of Colorado Springs.

That 1946 program you posted must be a great collector's item. Did Army possibly win the national championship that year with Blanchard and Davis?

The artist drawing on the cover is an excellent work. I thought at first glance it might be by Norman Rockwell, but it seems like someone else did it.

And yes, the Army won the National Championships in ‘44, ‘45, an ‘46.

FWIW, Jeff Sagarin (at USA Today) puts the line as Navy 21, Army 14.

Also ... I looked over the upcoming schedules, and it's not got a free venue until 2018, but I wonder: since it was played in Chicago in 1926 (the first and namesake game for Soldier Field), and in Pasadena in 1983, I was wondering why there has been no offer to have it played in Texas?

I mean, how can you go wrong. Texas is chock a block with football fans, with patriots, and three NFL stadiums. But no matter where they play it, it's always a good piece of sporting and of tradition. Even if their records aren't exemplars, the young men on that field are.

SONOBUOY PING!

Photobucket

Click on pic for past Navair pings. Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist. The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation. This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

Well. now that Navy, for whatever reasons, has decided to join the Big East, their program will now implode. The Big East, will NEVER be a football conference, unless they start playing with a ROUND ball.

Personally, I have mixed feelings..my long ago time in the Corps leads me always to root for Navy, but having attended many a game at West Point...Michie Stadium is without a doubt the most beutiful venue for a football game in the country...gotta luv the Cadets.

As far as I know, neither Navy nor Air Farce has committed to the Big East.

USA Today reported that Obama and Mr and Mrs Cretin (Biden) will attend the Army-Navy Game this year.

After all, they are running for re-election.

This will be my 9th consecutive game. I am not happy.

The crowd will be polite.

The media will report the politesse as approval.

Don’t believe it.

GO NAVY BEAT ARMY

CNNSI.com has multiple reports that NAVY will join the Big East for football ONLY. You are correct, in that it hasn’t been formally announced. Army supposedly has decided NOT to join the BigEast, and this is what may be holding up the Navy announcement..

They tried to get Army into a Conference for whatever reason (Money?) a while back and that, in addition to forcing a pro offense on them, destroyed the team. From what I know Army enjoys being Independent at this point.

Sorry that those attending will have to endure the Obummers/Bite-mes. Let’s see how quickly Zero makes the Army/Navy game about himself. After all EVERYTHING is about Zero, isn’t it?

GO NAVY!

The crowd was very respectful and kind at the 08 game to Bush.

Last time I checked, the team that beat all y’all was the AF Falcons, beating Navy at its own house, and only one academy has already clinched the Commander in Chief trophy for the second year running. Go Air Force!! The rest are punks.

The sticking point is getting Cadets/Squids to the games. Attendence of the game is mandatory (hate to say it but the name of the game at the Academies is image--why else did they move the Corps of Cadets section from their traditional spot accross the field to where the cameras can now pick them up after CBS Sports started broadcasting home games?) and while some students take the "Boomerang" buses that take you to the game that morning and back that night, most Cadets/Squids take a pass for the weekend and drive themselves down to Philly/Baltimore/DC (the places the game usually revolves around) and back, thus relieving the Academies of much of the burden of moving the entire Corps. If you had the game in Texas or California again I couldn't see Cadets transporting themselves.
