DALLAS -- Albert Pujols has agreed to a 10-year, $250 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Thursday.

The deal includes a full no-trade clause, which Pujols had been seeking and may have been a sticking point in his negotiations with the Miami Marlins.

They signed CJ Wilson too. Weaver, E. Santana, and Wilson is a pretty good front 3.

Don't forget Dan Haren!

“To all St.Louis fans which I am one too.

If Albert would have stayed in St.Louis He would have retired a legend with a statue in front of Bush stadium and who knows where else.”

####

Yes, and that is a TRULY rare event in today’s game.

A lot of us thought that was important to AP. Apparently not.

Time to move on.

The legendary St. Louis Cardinals franchise is much bigger than any single player; even the greatest slugger of his generation.

“Rumor here in Cleveland is that Tribe closer Chris Perez will now go to the Angels for 1B Kendry Morales.”

It’s “Kendrys” with an ‘s’, so we learned here in SoCal last season. He was a real power hitter until the freak leg fracture two years ago and he hasn’t played since.

If he comes back close to his old ability he will be a real asset to Cleveland. The Angels definitely need bullpen help.

We all work for money and ball players are no different. A statue doesn't put money in the bank account. Sports is business and he made a business decision.

Yeah I knew I forgot someone. That is a pretty goddamned good front 4! Can’t think of a better one in the AL.

Now that I look at it a bit closer; you might be right. Angels got Pujols..? Great. Walk him.

But Wilson? LOLOL! He won 16 games..not bad. But did you see the teams he beat? Only TWO were decent-hitting teams...the Red Sux and the KC Royals. The other 14 wins were against teams with batting averages of .253 or less. Three each against Seattle and Oakland; two each against the Angels and Rays...there's some killer line-ups there, folks. Now he has to FACE the Ranger line-up?

Get the popcorn. Whenever he faced a decent line-up; no decision or a loss. Losing C.J. does NOT hurt the Rangers.

Many seem to forget that Holland ALSO won 16 games, and performed a bit better than Wilson in the post-season. He is also six years younger than Wilson.

See you, C. J.

There Is No Joy in Mudville....er, St. Louis...

Yeah, they'll just have to settle for that World Championship.

The Rangers have quietly built one of the best farm systems in the major leagues, they have a lot of home grown players they will be able to draw on for years to come.

And even the Yankees, when you look at their most recent titles, those came when it was mainly their home grown players came through for them, they have mostly fallen short when they tried to buy championships.

I’m looking forward to Josh, Ian, Adrian, Nelson, Michael, and Mike getting their hacks in against Mr. Wilson...could be fun.

Cards fan here. Pujols is really only 31, as he was raised here in America. He is NOT, however, worth $250 for 10, especially with a no-trade clause. He’s been hurt every year for the last 4 years and his numbers are great, but in typical decline for his age. Angels will be looking to pawn him off in 3 years.

EyeGuy’s scenario sounds logical.

Would/can LAA sign C.J. Wilson?

I am shaking my head at this deal... AP is a beast right now, but unless this deal has a ton of riders/buy outs/etc this is among the worst deals in MLB history. If anyone thinks Pujols is really only 31 they are delusional - the man is probably 33-34 and maybe even older than that.

The Angels, if they are lucky, will get:
2 years of production worth what they are paying him
3 years of declining production but still acceptable
5 years of paying for injuries and mediocre player production that drains the team of any money to keep them competitive as AP happily cashes the Angels paychecks while fans bitch and moan about a last place team.

A lot of us thought that was important to AP. Apparently not.

That is why we Braves fans are so loyal to Chipper Jones. He not only took less to stay with the Braves, but then twice renegotiated his contract money out to the future to allow the team payroll room to sign new players.

He is at the end of his career now and not producing elite numbers anymore and that is fine with all of us. He is not breaking the bank, and we fans love him.

I’d much rather be the Rangers than the Angels....the Rangers have a lot of talent waiting in the wings in their farm system, and they have a lot of cash, but they’re not going to make a move just for the sake of making a move. They’re keeping their powder dry, and even if it means this year they drop off a little, they’ll be contenders for some time to come.

If CJ or Pujols is a bust, the Angels are screwed for years, just like the Rangers were with A-Fraud.

I couldn’t agree more.
My opinion of AP has sunk completely at this point and, while the Cards fans will be polite, they will never react to him like they do to Musial.

Nah - by and large, STL Fans will be polite and respectable.
But, he has now ensured that he will NEVER be treated the way Stan the Man is and has been treated.

I grew up down the street from Angels Stadium. Lived and died...many times with that team!!

Then I moved to Oklahoma...in '97...and they have a dream season in 2002..and win it all!!!!

That all said....I don't think they paid too much. 3 yrs from now...it may look cheap!! And Pujols would just be 35 yrs old. We shall see!!

The thing that's bothering me...is what happens to Trumbo, Morales?? I don't think Morales isn't ready to play first base. And I think this pick-up confirms that. But can he DH? We shall see. Now Trumbo...is a great kid. And did a great job last year!! What now? Can he play 3rd??? Not sure....but I think the Angels are going to find out!

The Angels weren't that far away from the Rangers this last year....and the Angels played horrible at times...and guy's had some bad years too.

All that said....I'm excited for them!!
