Sources: Chris Paul to Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a trade in which they will obtain New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul for Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, sources tell ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

The Houston Rockets are the third team in the trade and will obtain Gasol from the Hornets in return for Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, and a 2012 first-round pick that Houston received from the New York Knicks, sources said.

In Paul, the Lakers will obtain an All-Star and gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic Team member who has averaged 37.1 minutes, 18.7 points and 9.9 assists a game in his six NBA seasons.

Paul can opt out of his current contract with New Orleans after this season, and the Hornets have been fielding trade offers in an effort to acquire new players for the star guard rather than letting him walk in free agency.

The New Orleans Jazz, oops I mean the Hornets will miss Chris Paul. I know he wanted to go to the Nicks, but I’m sure he will be happy in L.A. Would bet Odom will be going to NOLA without Khloe. She needs the spot light.

Yep, I was listening to ESPN 710 and Ireland said there is a very good possibility that Howard could be traded to the Lakers in the next 24 hours..his sources are very reliable, he said they were the same sources that told him about the LeBron/Bosh to Miami deal so he knows its legit..it will probably be Bynum + Okafor for Howard + Turkaglu

Apparently its done..the deal is officially dead..Fine, then send LeBron back to Cleveland and Bosh back to Toronto..how come the owners weren’t up in arms about that going down..this is why the NBA is a freakin joke, I am done with the NBA if they allow this deal to die

Uh no, it's actually good for the NBA that this trade didn't happen. Basically, you'd have 3 "super-teams" (Heat, Lakers, Knicks) and 27 sad-sack franchises. A lot of the small-market owners are already losing money (even with the new concessions from the players). They'd get creamed even more in the "super-team" scenario.

The NBA owns the New Orleans Hornets..Chris Paul is the face of the franchise..no way did the NBA and Stern want their boy toy going to LA..that simple..and it sets HORRIBLE precedent too..basically any deal can be nixed because other owners behave like babies. Hey I was upset that LeBron and Bosh went to Miami, can they both be sent back to their original teams please

It appears this was a lopsided trade with gave the Lakers the best young BB player in the NBA, 40 million dollars in cap relief and a trade exception which could be used to land Howard. Houston would have gotten cap relief and Pau.

What did New Orleans get for the trade? Old crap players and lousy contracts for years... when you consider the NBA owns the New Orleans franchise... I'm sure the MAJORITY of the owners said, " Oh hell, no."
