At a time when the Republican presidential candidates are swiftly backing away from past moderate environmental positions, Newt Gingrich may be the only one with a book pending on the topic.
Gingrich and Terry L. Maple have something of a sequel in the works to their 2007 book, "A Contract with The Earth," tentatively titled "Environmental Entrepreneurs."
The duos first book called on policymakers and businesspeople on the right to show they had better ideas for protecting the environment and creating jobs than government did. The new book is a collection of essays by various businesspeople and scientists to be edited and stitched together by Gingrich and, mostly, Maple, a former chief executive of the Palm Beach Zoo.
The author of a chapter on climate change is Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist at Texas Tech whose work focuses on assessing the impact of climate change and communicating it to broader audiences, including those traditionally dubious of global warming, like Christian colleges.
The book requires a good opening chapter that lays out the facts on global climate change, but I would like this chapter to be framed with optimism, not gloom and doom, Maple said in an email to Hayhoe in October 2007. All that is needed from you is to provide a sense of what needs to happen. What is the window of opportunity and what does the science tell us about our chances for remediation?
Like most climatologists, Hayhoe accepts the broad scientific consensus that the climate is changing and that humanitys combustion of fossil fuels is the main reason for it.

This is almost as bad as Romneycare...
Worse imho.......another nail in Newts campaign
Why are people posting articles that are negative to Newt? This will not make the gingbats happy!
Lol and who’s going to win the nomination? I mean in the real world, not the pretend one.
“After the election”
They don’t want voters to see it before the election I bet.
The only people who are happy are the Romney-bots.
If Gingrich goes down, Romney wins.
“How To Trick Conservatives for Dummies” is coming out after the election too!
Too bad we can’t flush them both and start anew.
Looks like one way or another, we’re going to get that third Bush term.
One can only guess what that will usher in. And I thought the follow-on to two terms was bad enough.
This Terry Maple is an odd creature. What the hell is an environmental psychologist?
It will be Newt or Mitt. I will vote for either one. Who ever the Republican candidate is will get my vote! Republicans should not be tearing into any Republican candidate! If you favor one over another, then build your candidate up with his or her positive aspects. Don’t use negative tactics in the primary race. Not a good idea.
You liberals make me laugh. Bachmann has a very good chance to win if Newt flames out. Don’t make dumb accusations when not one vote has been made. I knew it was a horrible idea to even consider Newt...I win again!!!!!!!!!!!
Watch, out Mr. Gore, someone is going to eat your lunch. By the time Gingrich is through, Gore will look like an oil refinery owner.
Have you considered the fact the Mitt and Newt are both on the same GOP establishment side?
Think about it ...
Don’t worry. President Gingrich will use all his professorial brilliance to explain how FAIR the new carbon tax will be to all Americans. After all, it will have been fully negotiated with our global partners!
Some here haven't figured that out yet.
What is Obama was nominated as the Republican candidate? You would vote for him?
People don’t want to admit the obvious.
The fact is it’s always a bad thing when the main motivation supporting your campaign is that the other guy is hated more. That doesn’t work at the Presidential level.
Just once wouldn’t it be nice to actually vote FOR someone rather than having to vote AGAINST anyone? If anything about the Newt polling numbers shows, it’s that Romney isn’t viable at all. There’s by far a majority of voters that won’t vote for him. So we can essentially stop Romney with just about anyone (including an orange juice can).
Bachmann or Santorum can/should win this thing because they stand for what conservatives/tea party activists stand for.
They got 24 days to get it right.
