Jon Corzine, the former CEO of the bankrupt brokerage firm MF Global, has testified before Congress about his role in the company losing nearly a billion dollars.

His responses were tentative, claiming ignorance of events. This prompted committee member, Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., to remark that it was the "height of disbelief" for Corzine ....

If nothing else, politics in America is strung with a single thread.

I do wonder if Corzine ran it into the ditch to bail out a friend who was holding too much Euro debt. If someone needed to unload or needed the price bumped up, I wouldn't put it past Corzine to buy the crap (with other peoples money) for a return favor.

When Democrat Corzine assigned un-wanted debt to MF Global clients by investing their money, it was a violation of Federal rules. Corzine may go to jail.

When Democrat Obama assigned un-wanted Debt to US taxpayers by “investing” their money, it was NOT a violation of Federal rules. Obama may be re-elected.

BTW, everybody really should do “their fair share.”

Corzine's only defense at this point is that he voted YEA on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (H.R. 3763).

That means that he didn't read the bill and had to pass it to find out what was in it.

Now he's going to find out.

This is just another political three ring circus for congress critters to get their faces on TV.

Did they actually expect Corzine to come in and say he authorized the illegal use of investors funds?

Heck no!

If they had really wanted to find out what Corzine did and what happened to the $1.2 billion they would have subpoenaed the people who reported to Corzine, the people who took his orders, the people who might be facing prison if the truth about Corzine doesn't come out.

Re: The car accident. Corzine, as Governor, thought it was important to go to the meeting of Don Imus and the Rutgers basketball team. He was late and ordered his driver to speed on the Garden State Parkway. He was not wearing a seat belt. The car may have gone over 100 mph. The driver hit another car and they went into a ditch (or something). Corzine broke his...ahem...pelvis.

The worst thing? He tried to blame the poor driver of the other car. That sums up everything you need to know about this lying putz.

When Corzine was in the senate, did he vote for Sarbanes/Oxley? I don't know if he was in the senate at that time. But I do know that according to the laws, "I don't know what happened" isn't a valid response to an inquiry, and some pretty harsh prison time can be handed down over this sort of thing... They have to "sign off" on compliance documents, and they're criminally responsible.

The only reason I know this is that since SOX was implemented where I work, things that used to take 5 minutes to do still take 5 minutes, but I also have to fill out paperwork for 10 - 15 minutes, and chase down the people who have to sign off on it.

An entire industry has sprung up around SOX compliance.

Why stop there? What about BOND HOLDERS of GM prior to the Government take over? Forget about laws. The Federal Government by edict decided to dismiss the bond (loaned money) liabilities to actual humans, cancel the stock share liabilities to investors (or confiscate) and assign partial ownership of General Motors to the UAW (autoworkers union) so that whatever capitol was left would go to union pensions.

How can any investor or business have any more trust or confidence in the US investment economy than that of Venezuela where they just confiscate actual assets and money?

We opine about how forcing Americans to purchase a service is unconstitutional. But for the sake of law in America, what case can be made that any debt, contract, deed or trust is safe if our own government ignores limits established in the Constitution and written in thousands of page of legal judgments and legislature over the past 200 years?

The next president is going to have to make the following statement and then lead the nation in demonstrating by example,

"From this point on, no company or business or government program is to big or to important to fail. I will propose a constitutional amendment that will definitively ban the federal government from funding failing businesses through grants, loans, stock purchase or any other means short of legislated tax breaks."

Working for Corzine was a Soros manager.
Where did MF get the bonds in the first place - Soros at full or premium price to market?

Their strategy for now may be to let Corzine give his version. Later, they may issue subpoenas for underlings and E-mails. Subsequent information may well contradict Corzine. If they interview the underlings first, by the time Corzine is due to testify, he might take the Fifth. It might be better to get his testimony now as long as he is willing to go on the record.

Corzine's actions in their totality and the political sideshow will create a run on the banks once it all gets a chance to be absorbed by the public in their time.

If the former all-star governor of New Jersey can't explain what he did with billions of dollars which just vanished, the entire system shares the same weaknesses.

Without frog-marching the guy in a perp walk and throwing away the key, it's just a matter of months until it all goes "poof".

I agree. Trust, once lost is very difficult to earn again.

That is why “fast and loose” spendaholics like Obama are so very dangerous to the goodwill and trust that the citizens have in their Government.

By the laziness of the US Representatives and Senators, they have given up writing LAWS and allowed punk, ivy-leaguer Marxists write REGULATIONS which have the same cruel teeth as Federal LAWS.

Thus, Congress has degenerated into three gangs in suits: the dems, the RINOS, and the Black “Caucuses” who spend their time waiting to robo-vote on any bill that the Dictator in the White House happens to send their way.

We citizens do not choose to have our portion of the National Debt increased. This is a violation of our Freedom of Choice, as guaranteed in the US Constitution.

What Democrat Corzine and Democrat Obama did is the same: loosing our money, passing their mistakes on to us in the form of debt that WE owe, and then loosing track of the money that was lost. One goes to jail and the other gets an extension to violate our freedom of choice for another 4 years.

I say jail Corzine, and IMPEACH Obama!
