WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House rejected on Friday the latest proposal from Republicans in Congress on a payroll tax cut, saying its costs needed to be offset in a balanced away and not with budget cuts exempting the rich.

"We are open to looking at other ways to pay for this, but they have to be economically responsible and fair," White House spokesman Jay Carney said. "It is important that the overall package meet the standards the president has set."

Republicans have proposed that the payroll tax cut be paid for with an extension of a pay freeze for federal workers, changes to civilian federal retiree benefits and other reforms, including gradual increases in Medicare health premiums for the elderly and a clampdown on assistance to illegal immigrants.

Hmmmmm.......I wonder which section of the proposal will be highlighted in the news.

Obastard cares more about his left-wing eco nuts than the middle class. The middle class should take note of this.

The Republican response here is incredible. There basically is no opposition party to the Obama regime. “clampdown” on benefits to illegals. How about closing the border and stopping all tax-payer funding in support of illegals? Either they pay their own way or get out....or better yet, just get out! We are talking about untold billions in vote-buying theft from the taxpayer just to support illegals. To say nothing of waste and FRAUD....

What the white house says at this point is irrelevant
unless the senate were to pass the bill also (no chance of that)
and then the fuhrer could veto it if he was so inclined.

No you are not! It is YOUR WAY or no way, Obama! It has been since 2007 with Pelosi and Reid.

not at all...this is a one sided, left wing shill article from Rooters...read this from, believe it or not, the WaComPost:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/2chambers/post/house-gop-formally-unveils-payroll-tax-package/2011/12/09/gIQA2Z4MiO_blog.html

some highlights:

Some lawmakers of both parties have expressed concern that extending the payroll tax cut would threaten the solvency of Social Security; GOP leaders say their plan would address those concerns by cutting spending elsewhere in the federal budget and directing those savings to the Social Security Trust Fund.

The GOP proposal also would require those receiving jobless benefits to enroll in a GED program if they have not completed high school, and would allow states to choose whether to make drug testing a requirement for applicants.

On the Keystone pipeline, the Republican proposal would require the Obama administration to make a decision within 60 days on whether to grant a permit. The plan also would include provisions authorizing the government to conduct spectrum auctions and requiring the Environmental Protection Agency to delay regulations governing industrial boiler emissions, a move that House Republicans argue would lead to job creation.

Several elements of Senate Republicans’ payroll tax plan are included in the House GOP proposal, including an extension of the current two-year federal worker pay freeze as well as provisions on means-testing Medicare benefits and eliminating unemployment and food-stamp benefits for the wealthy.

basically the article points out the rats want to keep people stoned, stoopid as well as addicted to entitlements...

if the GOP is smart they bash this over the media head and get the talking points out all weekend...

I know how to pay for it......just take “airforce 1” away from the communist. That ought to save enough to fund the payroll tax cut as well as social security. lol........!

I had a phone call today from the RNC asking for money. They used the line about Obama and his policies and if I opposed them. I interrupted the nice young man and told him that I didn’t like Obama’s policies and I was even more ticked off at the Republicans and their lack of B*lls.

It was amazing how fast he hung up after telling me he was sorry I felt that way. LOL

Obama doesn't care. The tax cut will expire soon. FICA will go up and Obama will blame it on the Republicans.

Here's a solution ~ transfer 100% of FICA to employers on a graduated scale. Employers with less than 25 employees do not need to pay for those verified by E-verify to be here legally. Without e-verify, they have to pay it for all 25.

We ratchet that up on a logrithmic scale ~ so finally you get to UAW owned GM and they have to pay triple FICA for every employee provided they are verified by e-verify to be here lawfully. They have to pay 10 X FICA for illegals.

This taxes THE RICH and the POWERFUL CORPORATIONS.
