THE Red Cross is investigating whether 600 million gamers are violating the Hague and Geneva conventions when they kill and blow stuff up for fun.

Delegates at the 31st International Conference of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Red Crescent raised the concerns over the potential “International Humanitarian Law” violations – which can constitute war crimes - during a workshop in Geneva.

“Exactly how video games influence individuals is a hotly debated topic, but for the first time, Movement partners discussed our role and responsibility to take action against violations of IHL in video games,” the Red Cross wrote in its daily bulletin.

“While National Societies shared their experiences and opinions, there is clearly no simple answer. There is, however, an overall consensus and motivation to take action.”

Maybe we should control their minds so that there is no chance they will do anything we don’t approve of.

Thanks Da Bilge Troll.

The International Red Cross is guilty of decades of bigotry regarding its treatment of the Israeli aid organization.

But specific to this topic -- calling video games violations of law is easily the most stupid thing the Red Cross has ever been associated with -- and remember, it is closely associated with the Red Crescent.

Jeez...we better bring in the owners of Sierra, the maker of FEAR, along with my friend who loves playing war games.

We better arrest Bill Gates, for indirectly contributing to war games and gamers and video machine builcers.

Oh, dear.

I killed over 220,000 alliance in World of Warcraft. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of various other humanoids I encountered in that game.

If I stop posting on Free Republic, we’ll know that the international law finally caught up with me.

Will “They shouldn’t have been alliance” be a suitable defense for my war crimes trial, I wonder?

These are pussies that excoriate the West and say little about the crimes of radical Islamists. They do this because it is safer.

Not a hoax.

Daily bulletin - 1st December

"..Video games and IHL: how should the Movement take action?

While the Movement works vigorously to promote international humanitarian law (IHL) worldwide, there is also an audience of approximately 600 million gamers who may be violating IHL in the virtual world. Exactly how video games influence individuals is a hotly debated topic, but for the first time, Movement partners discussed their role and responsibility to take action against violations of IHL in video games. In a side event, participants were asked: “what should we do, and what is the most effective method?” While National Societies shared their experiences and opinions, there is clearly no simple answer. There is, however, an overall consensus and motivation to take action..."

The link is from their conference. It is their site.

31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent

"..The Statutes of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement state "The International Conference is the supreme deliberative body for the Movement". At the International Conference, representatives of the components of the Movement meet with representatives of the States Party to the Geneva Conventions (…). Together they examine and decide upon humanitarian matters of common interest and any other related matter" (Art. 8)..."

600 million gamers never signed the Hague or Geneva Conventions, so they don’t apply to them.
