My local Wal-Mart had 16-packs of Philips 100W soft white bulbs for $3.75 about a week ago. Made in Poland, too, which was nice. I stocked up. I may go grab some more.

I hope you use multiple bulbs for that.

Do you think there will be shortages of other wattages from the elimination of the 100s?

I changed to the flourescent bulbs by the front door. Heavy door, not-too-solid wall and three kids slamming the door really rattled things. The wire element in the regular bulbs would rattle and break.

The flouresescent bulbs last a long time, and good for leaving on all night. Not so great when they were in the flood lights as when I turned those on it takes a while for them to warm up to full brightness. And those are the ones I turn on to see what the noise was! I suppose this ban applies to them as well (150 watts I think I have up there now).

Most lightbulds now are of horrendous crap quality.
Even the ones that GE stamps their name on.

But then again, EVERYTHING is of horrendous Crap quality nowadays....

The future was to be bright.....

Why not repackage them as a heating element with this warning.. WARNING: It is a violation of FEDERAL LAW to use this 100 Watt heating element (formerly known as a 100 Watt light bulb) as a light bulb.

Good idea...

That was the point I tried to make with our geniuses in Congress. I live north of the 48th parallel.

That means in summer we get close to 18 hours of daylight at the peak, and don't use lights much.

In winter, it is the opposite, and believe me, in North Dakota in winter, no heat is 'waste heat' in my house.

So what heat a CFL won't produce has to be produced by other means.

Some 'greenhouse gas' reduction!

You need to let go of that faucet man, it’s not “low flow” is it?

I don't understand the hording thing either.

Because the new ones will suck. Of course a lot of the ones people are hoarding suck too. I ordered mine online and they are allegedly "long life" but I have no way of knowing for sure.

Why do you have a porch light on all day? Conspicuous consumption?

My porch light is on 24x7 so it will last (5 years and counting). Turning it off and on will shorten the life of any CFL.

Just let go of your antique light bulbs, your 3.5 & 5 gpf toilets, and your buggy whips.

Buggy whips were never banned.

How soon will low-flow faucets be mandatory, faucetman?

It also mandated the screwed up, gerrymandered daylight savings time regimen we are on, where we switch to “Summer” time while the calendar still reads “Winter.” It is very distressing.

Right. Part of the emergency drill is to open the windows and leave the premises before calling 911.

RE :”It also mandated the screwed up, gerrymandered daylight savings time regimen we are on, where we switch to “Summer” time while the calendar still reads “Winter.” It is very distressing.

I was one of the few that hated that. Certain devices like VCRs had the time switch hard coded programmed to the specific two days and the automatic switch had to be disabled and time change done manually twice per year.

The claim was that extending DLST into early and late winter would save energy, but that is crap. To REALLY save energy by playing with the clocks you could force people to go to work in the evenings in the peak summer when the sun is down, so the peak heat would be off most work hours. But that would be very unpopular.
