Wiles lives in an apartment overlooking the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street and said he looked outside to see a young gunman in a white shirt firing randomly at cars.
A brief video, which he provided to The Times, shows a man in the intersection firing a shot at a pickup truck.
The gunman was "being crazy and spastic," Wiles said, adding that he heard the man yelling.
The gunman started shooting with no apparent motive. He was killed on Vine Street by Los Angeles police officers Friday morning.
A man in a silver Mercedes Benz who was shot in the jaw is in critical condition, police said. The 40-year-old victim was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Other witnesses said the man was standing in the middle of the intersection, apparently "shooting randomly at cars and in the air,"
"At first it seemed like a movie but then you could hear the shots hitting metal," Bojorquez said.
Bojorquez said he then saw a plainclothes officer emerge from a squad car and order the gunman to get on the ground and surrender, but the gunman appeared to ignore him.

This ding is walking down the middle of Sunset randomly taking aim and shooting at cars driving by.
He was shot to death about 2 minutes later by LAPD. I understand he was hit at least 5-6 times, once through the head.

BTW, by the sound of the audio in the video, this guy was using a pretty hefty caliber.

Actually I think you’d call this, attempted murder then suicide by cop. Murder first, if the victim who had their jaw blown off, dies.
BTW, it’s kinda cool the LAPD can get a plainclothes officer there in 2 minutes to pick this guy off in a very densely populated area.

Crouse, 39; and Michael Hance, 51, goes on a shooting rampage in Copley Ohio killing 8 for no good reason before being killed by police. And then we have deaths by suicide. In 2007 it was 34,598.

One of my best friends and his wife just moved into an apartment less than two blocks from where this took place. He tried to get me to move out there too, but I think I’ll stay here in nice, quiet Kentucky.
I believe this was the victims Mercedes, who got his jaw blown off...Driver side window is blown out, blood on the vehicle body, near the rear wheel.
Hmmm...."12th St. & Vine" from "Kansas City" comes to mind....might be another one.

Interesting. I am drowsily watching one of the news reports, and suddenly hear a witness say the man was shouting: allahu akbar. My ears perked up a bit.

One of the witnesses heard him yelling “allahu akhbar” repeatedly. This witness was foreign-born, judging by his accent, and looked to me as if he might have been from Southeast Asia. It’s possible the the shooter was also foreign born and that nobody understood what he was screaming, except this man who would have known very well what “allahu akhbar” sounded like, or possible that the news editor simply edited it out of other reports and didn’t understand it when this witness said it so he left it in.
In other words, this was another moment of “workplace violence.” Disgusting. They’ll do anything to cover up Sudden Jihad Syndrom.
Which one, the 5-second one that left out the best part - when this loser got shot? Or the long one that leaves out the best part? Both videos are still available. If you couldn't see them it's usually due to too many hits.

Watching this guy die in #30, he appears to be a fruit cup, complete with goatee, hippie type necklaces, wife beater shirt etc...
In fact in the video, as cars drove by he quickly spins firing on them randomly....The intended victims could have been turban wearing Muslims for all he knew. Then again, I guess that don’t matter either.
I think this guys was just another angry nutbar who wanted to check out with a bang.

Did that really happen? I was kidding, the joke being that it seems like every shooting or bombing is done by a guy names Muhammad. I haven’t hear or read anything more about this crime.

All of the suicide by cop people start out doing SOMEthing that causes them to receive fire by police. That was his motivation: suicide by cop.
Suicide by cop is generally defined when a suspect simply points a gun at officers, knowing what the outcome will be. Or they fail to drop it etc, and in many cases the weapon is not even loaded. Not the case here.
Most wanting quick death by cops, don't try to kill others first. In this case, you could call it, attempted murder, then suicide by cop.
The reality here is, this individual was shot to death because he had already shot people, and was attempting to shoot more, and the reason he was shot to death...Regardless of what he desired.
This guy appeared to be just another violent angry ding.
