The Case for Ron Paul

By Jason McNew

Ron Paul, a physician, has earned himself the name "Dr. No" by refusing to vote for any bill which assumes powers other than those given in Article I, Section VIII of the Constitution. When one takes a sober look at our country today, it's easy to see why Dr. Paul would behave this way.

Take note that there is no authority in the Constitution for the setting of interest rates (as the Federal Reserve does) -- interference which led directly to the housing bubble (which Ron Paul predicted). Despite U.S. participation in several sizable wars, Congress has not bothered itself with actually declaring war since 1942 (on Romania). There is no authority to bail out banks, intervene in labor disputes, subsidize farming, regulate health insurance, or set educational policies. Every one of these unauthorized activities drives costs up (or drives prosperity down) and ultimately hurts average Americans. Increasingly, Americans are realizing that most of our social and economic ills can be traced to a failure to follow our own Constitution. Ron Paul has always been a strict, unapologetic Constitutionalist. How Ron Paul would govern as president can be envisioned by simply reading Article II of the Constitution (The Executive Branch.)

When it comes to the science of government, this statement by John Adams makes a perfect starting point for any debate: "The form of government which communicates happiness to the greatest number of persons, and in the greatest degree, is best."

Too bad MOST Americans like having a government that bails out the lazy and reality-challenged;as well as a government that tells OTHER people how to live, right down to what light bulb and toilet!

I say this because Americans have contained to either vote for more government or fail to vote or protest against more government;therefore what we have must be what the majority of those who vote want.If you don’t even bother to vote at all then that is even worse.

Articles like this one is why I stopped following American Thinker on a regular basis. They are getting too far off into the weeds on the side of the road... (And, not to mention their adoption of disqus software for comments. What a pathetic piece of software, to go along with their new moderators and new moderator policy. Useless, more than useless...)

The latest out of his mouth has sealed his fate. I welcome him to run third party. He is more attuned to a Michael Moore crowd than anything else.

Your second post on Free Republic, this time around?

Ron Paul would lose all “57” states.

Ron Paul’s foriegn policy outlook would be perfect if it sill took 3 months to sail across the Atlantic.

In addition, Paul's proposed budget would make a great starting point for dialogue, but have been ignored. Paul would not cut military pensions and benefits, nor SS for those retired and near retired, but would end freebies for illegals. all foreign aid, several entire departments.

Yes, Ron Paul is focused on honoring the promises that were made to those who served and got pretty ticked off at Obama for suggesting cuts to military benefits a few months back:

Ron Paul: ““Cutting the benefits of our Veterans benefits while we subsidize the security of other wealthy nations like Germany and Japan and play World Policeman makes no sense. ....Do not mistake me for a pacifist or a person solely focused on the economics of the unsustainable global security and state-building that has helped our country arrive at the shores of financial ruin. On the contrary, I consider my military service as an Air Force flight surgeon during the Cold War to be among my highest personal and professional achievements....

And he saves SSI and Medicare for those already dependent and nearing dependence, by other cuts, while letting younger people opt out.

Personally, I think that Ron Paul's is going to be the least painful way of getting us back on track, economically and socially -- and while it isn't going to painless, it's going to hurt like hell for some -- it's may well be the last step before a potentially real financial, social and political Armageddon for this country. I don't think that most people really understand just how serious this economic situation is and close to the precipice of a complete meltdown we are.

He’s more articulate than Rick Perry.

You have not set the bar very high.

We are indeed on the precipice and leaning toward the edge.

A sharp return to the Constitution and its limitations is needed NOW, not later.

Get rid of a few of his crazier opinions and bring him up to speed on some of the political realities that have changed since the Constitution was written, and Dr. Paul doesn’t sound that bad.

Besides, don’t we need a little “good crazy” to counter the madness we’ve seen over the past few decades?

Thanks for the link. I bet some here would be surprised to see Paul write "“Authentic, Constitutionally-sound national security – a strong national defense – begins with guarding our borders and not the Afghanistan-Pakistan border."

Re:"I don't think that most people really understand just how serious this economic situation is and close to the precipice of a complete meltdown we are."

I suspect you are correct. The damage done by globalism and so-called 'free trade' until recently had been hidden by cheap electronic toys made by neo slaves in third world countries, access to cheap credit, and by 'enhanced' government statistics (which are losing credibility).
