The day after Pete was killed, I was sitting at the dining room table with Hardtail, just trying to make sense of all that was going on.

My cell phone rang. "Unknown" said the caller ID.

Thought about letting it pass, but I answered it.

"Alan, this is Rick Perry."…..

C-Span just finished showing speeches from yesterday to the GOP Jewish org.
...Perry followed Newt. Newt gave a great talk and riveted the crowd, as usual. Hard act to follow, as usual.

Whereas Newt speech was glittering and wonkish, Perry’s was...just Perry.

On faith, on Israel, on Iran, on America and freedom here at home and abroad, on American exceptionalism, on out of control Washington DC, on a part time Congress, on Wall Street bailouts, on a secured border, on Central and South American infiltration by our terrorist enemies, on Texas jobs, on Texas healthcare....

Ray and Amelia Perry’s son from Paint Creek, tenant cotton farmer, Aggie grad, Air Force pilot, Texas politician...

That was WHO spoke to the group.

Of course it wasn’t like Newt spoke...who does that? Nobody but Newt...

Do you have a link handy for those who missed the speech? Does C-Span have it archived?

And I suggest FReepers watch every candidate’s speech there. Just be sure to include Perry’s.

This moves me to tears. My husband died recently. He held the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V device....and too many other medals to list. He was in that war we failed to win..you know ....Vietnam. He never thought we failed to win. He was a quiet man and on his headstone are the words, Follow Me. He admired, respected, and supported Rick Perry.

Newt’s speaking ability, whether in prepared remarks or answering questions, showed and was appreciated by the crowd. He is an exceptional talker and riveting speaker. I read a column once by Peggy Noonan who was saying, in effect, when he speaks, people listen. You tend to hang on his every word.

I don’t take that away from him.

I expect people to respond favorably to that, unless he says something completely boneheaded, out of left field, off the wall etc.

Perry is very different but then, who isn’t?

Perry is Perry. What you see is what you get. And that is a good thing.

The thing about Newtie is there are so many lies in what he says. I’ve been tracking that and it is astounding how many statements in speeches and debates are full of lies.

Perry sometimes forgets things of which are not in his day to day life outside of the politics he deals with as governor. Obviously everyone has different abilities and he's over 50 so forgetting something once in awhile is totally normal. Our previous president sometimes had difficulty finishing a sentence but that didn't mean he was not capable of doing his job. Integrity and a principled character are the requisites that make for a good president. Perry seems to have both.

Nanny-State Newt’s main weakness is his unshakable belief in the goodness of BIG Government.

Newt is a Hamiltonian. Hamilton believed in a large, powerful, and financially controlling, Federal Government.

Kitchen-table Americans are Jeffersonians. Jefferson believed in a SMALL, FRUGAL Federal Government.

In my humble, but ALWAYS correct opinion, the US Federal Government has gone beyond the limit of a Hamiltonian style of Federal Government, and must be reversed towards a more Jeffersonian concept of Federal Government.

If Perry wants to beat Newt, he must have a solid plan to reduce the financial expenditures so that expenditures are reduced below that of our declining National Income.

Normal attrition of large employers is 5 % a year, according to statistians. Thus, if Perry would propose a freeze on employment the Feds would lose 5 % of their employees each year, which would be a reduction of 18.55 % labor expenses after 4 years.

Since Federal Politicians have caused our huge National Debt, Perry should require that for the next 4 years, that ALL (including Perry) Federally elected officials will have, each year, their baseline salaries and benefits cut by the % of the previous year’s deficit to the total actual Federal spending for that year. For example, for the last fiscal year that would be a baseline reduction of 56 % per elected official to be applied in fiscal year 2012.

BTW, isn’t this election about firing the CEO, and cutting the salaries of the Board of Directors?

Deny it if you choose to, but the US Federal Government is the largest Company that the World has ever seen. So let us, the stockholders, hold all of them accountable for their actions, just like any other responsible shareholders do.

Rick Perry, Corps of Cadets 1969 TX A&M

Rick Perry served in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Texas A&M

C-130 Rick Perry: He flew the world before politics …….

Perry could count on one hand the number of trips he had taken out of his home state by the time he graduated from Texas A&M University, but everything changed when he joined the Air Force.

Flying C-130s, Perry lived in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He flew in Central and South America, North Africa and all over Europe.

"I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare," Perry said. " ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life."

.....Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force, completed pilot training and flew C-130 tactical airlift in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe until 1977. He left the Air Force with the rank of captain, returned to Texas and went into business farming cotton with his father.

The division's redesignation as the 36th Infantry Division is part of the Texas Army National Guard's transition from a heavy armored force to a more versatile infantry force.

Is Jay Leno gay? I am just wondering because yesterday he showed a Perry ad about being Christian and said to Bill O'Reilly something like how much it offended him because of the gay remark. Seems Bill just deflected it and would not take the bait. (We had some sound problem with the TV0. Leno also has gone after Bachmann over and over again regarding her husband's views of gays. Why would Leno be so obsessed with gay issues?

BTW, I thought Perry looked decisive and convincing is this ad.

The odd thing (well not really) is that the MSM is writing headlines to say Perry was gay-bashing when the ad was nothing of the sort. It was an attack on Obama but then the media needed to deflect that, didn’t they.

I have no idea about Leno.

Leno ... I don’t believe he thinks deeply about the issues but all hollywood and tv types defend gays for some reason.

I don’t hate gays myself and don’t think Rick Perry does. He’s not a hater. He is definitely in favor of going back to don’t ask, don’t tell, but he was just trying to illustrate how skewed liberal thinking has become in the ad.

You are making my point! Perry poll numbers are < 10 % BECAUSE:

” - - - Perry has been on that hymnal page for years.

He has the plans. - - - “

Perry will stay “on that Hymnal Page for years” after this campaign season is over as long as he does NOT “break out above the noise!”

“Don’t rock the boat, be PC, don’t offend ANY group of voters, etc, etc,” is the very surest way to lose a campaign, in my humble, but ALWAYS correct opinion.

Perry MUST capture the imagination of those of us who want a much smaller Federal Government by FREQUENTLY (MSM needs fuel 24/7), releasing portions of his Government reduction plan in a manner that “gets him above the noise.”

His previous statements on Soc.Sec. Ponzi scheme is an excellent example of how to “get above the noise.”

Quote from the more controversial parts of his book “Fed Up,” be the cheer leader for a smaller US Federal Government, embrace conflict with the damned MSM, LEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Perry can’t do that now, then why should we trust him to have the backbone to downsize the US Federal Government? Wimps need not campaign for POTUS.

This is it! Nanny-State Newt or Willy-Rom-Rom-RINO are poised to whup up on Perry in the next three States elections.

If Perry wants to win he has to stop being the 12 th Man standing and cheering as America loses to BIG Government RINOS in the most important game in our Republic.

Perry must QUICKLY jump into the bloody field of political battle as if America’s Financial Future depended on only HIM!

BTW, gig ‘em Rick!

Thanks for the hotlink. Lots of people will never read, or study up on Rick Perry. They will form their opinions on Perry from what they hear from their peers, and from the MSM.

To break out of the dull roar of the MSM-controlled COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION, Perry must HIMSELF “break out above the noise.”

The MSM needs fuel 24/7, so Perry needs to FREQUENTLY feed them as HE wants to. Newt is very good at that. Cain reacted to the MSM, and lost. “Lead, follow, or get out of the way” very nicely describes the 3 groups of remaining Candidates.

If Perry wants to lead, then he must do so in a manner that captures OUR imagination. Reagan was a master at that because he always spoke above the heads of the MSM,- - - - he spoke directly TO the people. Nobody does that now, so here is ANOTHER way for Perry to “get above the noise.”

Tell Perry to forget about getting the support of the MSM because they will support the Obamanator regardless of facts and events.

Tell Perry to campaign as if he really did want to be the first US President to significantly downsize the US Federal Government.

Tell Rick Perry to campaign as if he wanted to be the first President since Van Buren to to not have any National Debt. ( it may take Perry 8 years, instead of 4.)

Tell Rick Perry to talk directly to WE, the TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY, and the MSM will grudgingly have to broadcast his speeches.

BTW, good luck as I know that you can tell a politician something, but you can’t tell him much.
