It's not all that surprising that, in the wake of Rick Perry's much-maligned anti-gay ad the other day, the gay conservative group GOPRoud ended up at the center of the ensuing media storm, fielding requests from reporters left and right. Except it seems that the group's director and chairman (inadvertently, they claim) created a gay-bashing brouhaha of their own by letting slip the true sexual orientation of Tony Fabrizio, a top strategist on the governor's presidential campaign. In an e-mail to the rest of the board acquired by the Daily Caller GOProud leaders Chris Barron and Jimmy LaSavlia defended themselves, basically by claiming that Fabrizio's in-or-out status wasn't exactly a closely-held secret.

Wouldn’t “gay conservative” be an oxymoron?
Good for Breitbart. He should’ve never joined the board in the first place. The homosexual agenda is a full-frontal attack on our first amendment rights and our moral society.
“Drama just seems to follow Perry and his camp.”
Poison just seems to seep from GOProud.
Breitbart sure chooses strange times to decide whats right, after supporting the gay agenda all this time.
I don’t think all homosexuals subscribe to the radical political agendas of the “gay community”.
But that militant, pink mafia, agenda driven stuff has no place in politics, let alone any association with conservatism.
Is Breitbart gay? Just asking.
And I see no contradiction by the Perry campaign, if his aide wasn’t “openly serving”. Plus the army is different than civilain life.
>> “Wouldnt gay conservative be an oxymoron?” <<
Yes, it would!
You could ask his wife, the daughter of Orson Bean. They have 4 children. (Think it was mentioned in his book. It’s on Wikipedia too.)
Breitbart isn’t gay, he just has to have his finger in everybody’s pie. Sometimes it backfires in a big way.
“Wouldnt ‘gay conservative’ be an oxymoron?”
I believe recent studies have show conservatives to be, on the whole, happier that liberals, so no.
No, I know a lot of gay conservatives, they're just not into identifying themselves by their sexual preferences. You form a friendship with them for who they are not what they are.
Let the gay games 2012 begin. They’ve been itching to start them for months.
Everybody buckle up.
“Me thinks he doeth protest over-much”
No. He’s a conservative family man. Whether he has any “gay” friends or relatives, I don’t know. Don’t understand why he’s sympathetic to GOProud. Coulter either. CPAC was nuts for going along with that crap.
It took Breitbart long enough to get a clue. I figure he regretted his decision to align himself with that group and just needed an excuse to bail. Anyway, better late then never. It will be interesting to see what Ann Coulter says about this.
I don’t think it’s accurate to say that Breitbart supports the gay agenda at all. GOProud has not made the radical gay agenda what they were about. They are supposed to simply be a group that acknowledges that some gays are small government low tax low regulation folks - but you do have to wonder what some of their members really think about the other issues.
Breitbart is of the opinion that this is none of anyone’s business - thus he was being totally consistent with that stance by quitting the group’s board over their “outing” someone.
I think he might have been a bit naive to think that GOProud members - at least some of them - wouldn’t at least harbor some support of the gay agenda.
Live and learn. Very good, Mr. Breitbart is a man capable of learning. That is always a grand social good.
I honestly think there are - for the sake of this discussion - three general categories of homosexuals -
My hunch is that people in the first group are very capable of conservative and rational thought, the people in the second group can possibly be reached - but with the understanding that their life's experience may make that difficult, and the third group is beyond political reach.
All deserve our prayers. In particular, being in the first two groups must be extremely difficult.
So where is annie? Crickets.
>> Dont understand why hes sympathetic to GOProud. Coulter either. >>
My guess - from reading a lot of his work and his book - is that he has a sort of “hippy dippy party boy can’t we all just get along” side to him. Now that does not include what he calls “cultural Marxist” but it would make him want to include gays who are otherwise believers in small government and so on.
I think he might have learned a lesson from this.
As for Coulter? I think she just likes their fashion sense and appreciation of her shoe collection. :)
Just wondering what the backlash will be on Perry. I’m guessing the evangelicals won’t take kindly to Perry having a top gay staffer. I’d bet Tony Fabrizio is gone from the Perry team in the next 5 days.
I think I agree with your assessment. Well stated.
Everybody’s preparing their volley ink into the gayfight as we speak. Who was it that struck first with Newt’s half-gay sister, was that Politico?
Why can't we just all be AMERICANS? . . . What's wrong with that concept, Huh!!!
How so? Isn’t Perry the one who, in essence, started it with his ‘Strong’ ad? Don’t you agree this puts Perry in a quandary for having an outed top staffer?
***I know a lot of gay conservatives, they’re just not into identifying themselves by their sexual preferences***
Which cannot be said for the members of GOProud. They declare both their homosexuality and their Republican preferences. That is the thrust of the organization.
How many of the first group are recruiting and grooming the ones in the second group?
Well geez. His gay sister is way old news. What would have been news is if she supported Newt.
>> Just wondering what the backlash will be on Perry. Im guessing the evangelicals wont take kindly to Perry having a top gay staffer.>>
That is a knee jerk and totally counter productive response. Perry’s campaign has been a great campaign on all social issues and if that can be done with a gay staffer, more power to the campaign.
Now, if the staffer were a gay activist, that’s something else - which he obviously was not. As a Christian, it’s a non factor to me. It’s not like there has been even a whiff of gay activism on Perry’s part.
On one hand, someone’s sexual orientation/proclivities should be private...
on the other hand, if you buy into all the hype/TV shows/religious leaders/etc, this shouldn’t be a big deal...
so which is it?
>> That is the thrust of the organization. >>
Really? You had to use “THRUST” of the organization!!! :)
If that staffer supports getting .gov funds, restricting prayer in school, forcing our servicemen and women to bunk with gays, or trying to base his foreign policy on which country is the most queer-friendly, then yes, Perry has a problem.
That’s like saying some muslims are moderate - just a myth like the “moderate homsoexual” with no agenda.
Newt’s half-sister is fully lesbian;) I know!!!!!!!!!
Doesn't bother me either. But, considering Perry's recent ad, he may have some explaining to do. Honestly, all he has to say is, 'I hired the best people for the job. As long as they support my campaign and the values it stands for. What they do in their private life is no business of mine.'
Why do gay people want to embarrass others by calling them gay?
You should hear what they call each other! LOL. Makes me blush!

I agree with that. I want to be left alone to walk out my faith, run my business, raise my kids and keep as much of the fruits of my labor as possible. As long as anyone else wants that, I would just as soon not know, let alone care, what their proclivities are.
It’s only when the force it on you in the public square and in public policy that I care, and from what I can tell, this staffer was not about any of that.

No doubt, some. I suspect more in the third group are doing the recruiting, but the key thing is that in communities that are more moral (the Midwest, the suburbs, the countryside), societal institutions are more likely to take someone with a troubled childhood and push them to normalcy.
However, if you come to San Francisco with a messed-up background, prepare to get messed up much more.
My compassion for those that may have homosexual instincts should in no way be taken as a vote of support for the homosexual agenda. I see how the agenda is highly destructive, and how the "lifestyle' leads to incredible misery and outright disease.
But if you have gay instincts, are fighting them, and are fighting bad agendas (gay or otherwise), you're alright with me.
NYC schools are now pushing perversion on 11 year olds and Hollyweird has always been tolerant of pedophilia with child stars. Sadly, its becoming more and more accepted.
Oh, so it’s his step-sister that’s waygay? I was thinking only half, as in bi.
In any event, “outing” is a despicable act.
I get all I need of their culture from Family Guy.
