Andrew Breitbart Steps Down From GOProud Board After it Outs Perry Advisor
NY Magazine ^ | 12/9/2011 | Andre Tartar

It's not all that surprising that, in the wake of Rick Perry's much-maligned anti-gay ad the other day, the gay conservative group GOPRoud ended up at the center of the ensuing media storm, fielding requests from reporters left and right. Except it seems that the group's director and chairman (inadvertently, they claim) created a gay-bashing brouhaha of their own by letting slip the true sexual orientation of Tony Fabrizio, a top strategist on the governor's presidential campaign. In an e-mail to the rest of the board — acquired by the Daily Caller — GOProud leaders Chris Barron and Jimmy LaSavlia defended themselves, basically by claiming that Fabrizio's in-or-out status wasn't exactly a closely-held secret.

I don’t think it’s accurate to say that Breitbart supports the gay agenda at all. GOProud has not made the radical gay agenda what they were about. They are supposed to simply be a group that acknowledges that some gays are small government low tax low regulation folks - but you do have to wonder what some of their members really think about the other issues.

Breitbart is of the opinion that this is none of anyone’s business - thus he was being totally consistent with that stance by quitting the group’s board over their “outing” someone.

I think he might have been a bit naive to think that GOProud members - at least some of them - wouldn’t at least harbor some support of the gay agenda.

Live and learn. Very good, Mr. Breitbart is a man capable of learning. That is always a grand social good.

While in no event is it moral to act on homosexual instincts, we should recognize that there are people who have homosexual instincts, sometimes even if they don't want them.

I honestly think there are - for the sake of this discussion - three general categories of homosexuals -

My hunch is that people in the first group are very capable of conservative and rational thought, the people in the second group can possibly be reached - but with the understanding that their life's experience may make that difficult, and the third group is beyond political reach.

All deserve our prayers. In particular, being in the first two groups must be extremely difficult.

>> Don’t understand why he’s sympathetic to GOProud. Coulter either. >>

My guess - from reading a lot of his work and his book - is that he has a sort of “hippy dippy party boy can’t we all just get along” side to him. Now that does not include what he calls “cultural Marxist” but it would make him want to include gays who are otherwise believers in small government and so on.

I think he might have learned a lesson from this.

As for Coulter? I think she just likes their fashion sense and appreciation of her shoe collection. :)

Just wondering what the backlash will be on Perry. I’m guessing the evangelicals won’t take kindly to Perry having a top gay staffer. I’d bet Tony Fabrizio is gone from the Perry team in the next 5 days.

Everybody’s preparing their volley ink into the gayfight as we speak. Who was it that struck first with Newt’s half-gay sister, was that Politico?

Why do we all have to break off into "Groups."

Why can't we just all be AMERICANS? . . . What's wrong with that concept, Huh!!!

How so? Isn’t Perry the one who, in essence, started it with his ‘Strong’ ad? Don’t you agree this puts Perry in a quandary for having an outed top staffer?

***I know a lot of gay conservatives, they’re just not into identifying themselves by their sexual preferences***

Which cannot be said for the members of GOProud. They declare both their homosexuality and their Republican preferences. That is the thrust of the organization.

How many of the first group are recruiting and grooming the ones in the second group?

Well geez. His gay sister is way old news. What would have been news is if she supported Newt.

That is a knee jerk and totally counter productive response. Perry’s campaign has been a great campaign on all social issues and if that can be done with a gay staffer, more power to the campaign.

Now, if the staffer were a gay activist, that’s something else - which he obviously was not. As a Christian, it’s a non factor to me. It’s not like there has been even a whiff of gay activism on Perry’s part.

On one hand, someone’s sexual orientation/proclivities should be private...
on the other hand, if you buy into all the hype/TV shows/religious leaders/etc, this shouldn’t be a big deal...
so which is it?

If that staffer supports getting .gov funds, restricting prayer in school, forcing our servicemen and women to bunk with gays, or trying to base his foreign policy on which country is the most queer-friendly, then yes, Perry has a problem.

That’s like saying some muslims are moderate - just a myth like the “moderate homsoexual” with no agenda.

The staffer has worked with GOProud and the log cabin republicans.

Doesn't bother me either. But, considering Perry's recent ad, he may have some explaining to do. Honestly, all he has to say is, 'I hired the best people for the job. As long as they support my campaign and the values it stands for. What they do in their private life is no business of mine.'
