He could have bet a beer. Or maybe a steak dinner.

But during a heated dispute with Rick Perry during Saturday night's debate in Des Moines, Iowa, Mitt Romney extended his right hand and asked the Texas governor if he'd wager $10,000 to settle a dispute over his healthcare record. The rich bet instantly provided Romney's opponents with new ammunition for their charge that he's out of touch with middle-class America.

He’s done? I hope so. Maybe we can stop supporting the not-Romney candidate and support a conservative.

“....he’s out of touch with middle-class America.”

.
How true. But the sad part is that he would still make an infinitely better president than the Kenyan presently is. It just shows how deep in trouble this country really is.

This is America, it is not a crime to have money or be wealthy.

Unlike Obozo’s half million dollar Hawaiian vacations funded by taxpayers, atleast Romney is spending his own money.

Not sure if thats a good thing or not, a competent statist isn't necessarily more desirable then an incompetent one.

Really? What would be the effective difference between Romney and Obama? Both Romney and Obama delivered a reorganization of the health-care sector in the form of state supervision supported by new rules, new taxes, exchanges, and mandates. Only RomneyCare has a public option, something Obama was never able to deliver, so of the two of them Romney is the more progressive.

Perry was steady and strong. He came across as a very humble leader. Romney was really weak and jumpy. Newt was the same pompous and angry grandpa. Bachman was still the teacher who makes noise writing on the chalkboard. Santorum was much more positive than ever before, and did not complain or gripe. Ron Paul as good as always, minus his looney stance on National Security and Foreign Policy.

Even ABC’s pundits saw it as a gigantic fauxpas. When MSM steps off the Mitt bandwagon it says a lot.

If Romney had said, “I’ll bet you a 6-pack of Yuengling,” he could have come off like a regular Joe - - you know, like when John Kerry asked, “Is this where I get one of them there huntin’ licenses?” (By the way, the guy at Mort’s Kosher Deli answered Kerry, “Uhh... No.”)

Whatever you think of Romney, you cannot convince me that he wants the destruction of this nation that Obama wants.

Yes, because Romney doesn't have that much imagination. He would destroy our country through his well-intentioned progressive policies like RomneyCare, with its new rules, new taxes, its exchanges, and its mandates.

That's true.

But this 10K bet thing just cooked his goose. He's done, because the MSM is going to sing about it for weeks.

Newt was his usual arrogant self, Paul was level-headed for a change, Bachmann remained irrelevant, as did Santorum. Perry looked kinda good -- at least the most genuine of the bunch. Too bad he doesn't have a chance at this point.

How could we let ourselves get to this point in the election cycle with only these dopes?

Where is the Tea Party? What the hell happened?

"Conservatives didn't hold back on jokes directed at the wealthy Romney. Jonah Goldberg of the National Review tweeted that "Romney promises that his butler will 'personally deliver' $10,000 check if he loses," which was quickly retweeted by RedState's Erick Erickson.

Jonathan Martin, who covers the GOP race for Politico, also pounced. "Who among us doesn't wager $10K at a time?" he tweeted." - Link

I once knew a fine, older gentleman who had made a fortune selling high speed printers to companies (back in the 70's and early 80's). He told me of times when he would wager double or nothing on a $20k printer over a single hole of golf.

One day a highway patrolman pulled him over for speeding down I40 in Tennessee to make a business meeting. When the cop walked up to his car he rolled down the window and said ... "Hurry up, I've got somewhere to be!" :)

It's stories like this that, to me, describe what once was the American spirit.
