Posted on 12/11/2011 4:19:19 PM PST by SmithL
A state senator from Southern California was considering calling for a boycott of Lowe's stores after the home improvement chain pulled its advertising from a reality show about Muslim-Americans.
Calling the retail giant's decision "un-American" and "naked religious bigotry," Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told The Associated Press on Sunday that he would also consider legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. The senator sent a letter outlining his complaints to Lowe's Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Niblock.
The retail giant stopped advertising on TLC's "All-American Muslim" after a group called the Florida Family Association complained the show was "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values."
. . . In addition to an apology and reinstatement of the ads, Lieu said he hoped Lowe's would make an outreach to the community about bias and bigotry.

There are tens of thousands of businesses that don’t advertise on it, should government force them to support shows they don’t like??
I may have to go shopping at Lowes.
Sounds like a crime to me.
That reminds me, I need to pick up a few things at Lowe’s tomorrow.
That reminds me, I need to pick up a few things at Lowe’s tomorrow.
Only in a Constitutional Republic, something the current administration and Congress is close to eradicating in this country. They've done enough damage that these "small" violations don't even cause a ripple in public opinion... much less in the MSM.
I don’t think Hormel bacon is advertising on there either.
Home Depot is a mile and a half from my house, Lowes is 15 miles. But if this putzhead of a state senator persists I will happily drive the extra distance.
Some Chinese idiot is sticking up for Muslims? I don’t get it? Is he a super liberal freak who can’t get laid not even by his wife if has one
(yes prolly Chinese-American dude) (same as egg fu yung is Chinese-American)

Are you kidding me? A sponsor pulls advertising from a program and some political hack wants to take “legislative action”???? Is it now a punishable offense not to support the official position being advanced through mass televised propaganda?
Lowe’s needs to tell Torrance to go pound sand. And this makes me much more favorably disposed towards Lowe’s.
Get some 100 watt incandescent... about to be phased out on 1/1/2012.
Sorry, the hack’s name isn’t Torrance, but Lieu. Rather, he’s from Torrance.
Common error; remember Vito Andolini from Corleone?
Islame is a system of GLOBAL ENSLAVEMENT.
I hope the idiot does it.
It will call attention to their action, and will probably increase their business substantially.
>> “Sounds like a crime to me.” <<
Sounds like Obama to me.
...after the home improvement chain pulled its advertising from a reality show about Muslim-Americans.This joker (Demagogic Party, of course) thinks there are no consequences to his stupid grandstanding, may he find out otherwise.
Someone called a moosewash for what it was. Amazing.
In lieu of legislative action against Lowes, perhaps Lieu will just boycott Torrance?
Torrance is full of liberal kooks.
A reality show about Muslim-Americans? Did they show be-headings and the occasional Jihad? I mean, that’s a way of life, isn’t it?
I learned all the reality about Muslims that I need to know on 9/11/2001. The condemnation of the murderers from the “Muslim community” was nonexistent.
Couldn’t it have been that the viewership was so low for the program that it wasn’t worth spending advertising dollars on?
What a Nazi. I'm serious. Nazi. I don't usually say that because we all know the rule on calling your opponent a Nazi. But what can I say?? He's a Nazi!
What has our republic come to when a state senator (an employee of the citizens) can tell a private company how it will spend it’s advertising dollars? From where does he think he derives this power? I think he is assuming a lot, including that his future employment is assured.
You can go online to Lowes.com, go to Contact Us, go to Lowe’s Corporate, and eventually find a page where you can send them an email. I just sent them a quick one telling them to stand their ground, it is their right.
LOL Yeah, I knew Torrance was in there somehow. Gotta work on that reading comprehension.
Pi$$ on Ted Leiu (socialist) Torrance, DPRK !
Yet another reason for me to continue shopping at Lowe’s!
Hey Senator. Why don’t you worry that we pissed off American Christians are going to start a boycott of California?
Why don’t you worry about how your state is bankrupt because of illegals and Dems running your state in the ground.
I wonder how you can even remember how to breathe, you idiot.
You are right on target!
Strange how the so called progressive, tolerant pushing libos, and the diversity loudies all tell us how good the Muzzies are when every evidence, past and present proves otherwise!
Yes, of course.
The legal precedent is ObamaCare.
Are you, perchance, a Uyghur, Sen. Lieu?
Thank you, State Sen. Ted Lieu, for pointing our where I should do my immediate shopping for home improvement supplies in the near future.
Calling the retail giant's decision "un-American" and "naked religious bigotry," Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told The Associated Press on Sunday that he would also consider legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads.
To add insult to injury and stupidity, please point out where in the California Constitution the legislature is granted the power to dictate to any private business when and how it must advertise its products. Abuse of power under delusional power of authority is a serious charge, but if you are willing to suffer the consequences, go for it.
Threats, not even thinly veiled, arouses the competitive spirits of informed citizens. Attempting to enforce what amounts to sharia law on US citizens doesn't sit too well with American Citizens. I shall contact both my state representatives to make sure a radical muslim activist doesn't assume free rein over California citizens.
As for apologies to a killer cult threatenening the entire world, every freaking day, don't hold your breath. They have not established themselves as Mass Murdering Muslims without notice. Unfortunately, the fictional All-American Muslim, is a minuscule and insignificant part of the culture that relies on threats, murder, explosives and murder to establish themselves as the most serious parasite to civilized countries.
(18,120 and counting))
He used to be a representative from El Segundo, near LAX - one of his offices was right next to my laundromat in that town when I lived there.
Ted Lieu is an America hating leftist.
Should Lowe’s (or whoever) be FORCED BY THE GOVERNMENT to advertise on Glen Beck?
If a Republican had proposed the above, how would it have been received?
“(You get what you tolerate)”
You realize that’s a BRILLIANT line, don’t you?
Two can play at this game. I have been boycotting California for at least 10 years and I do shop at Lowes and will continue to do so.
Give a note to the store manager (proves you walked in the door) and email corporate HQ with a copy of your receipt if you like, as to why you’ve chosen to patronize their store.
Yeah, this guy is part of the same Government who want to make it a federal offense for saying anything bad about Islam.
What’s with the Chinese bashing?
I watched the first episode and it was just plain dull.
I don’t blame Lowe’s for backing out.
How about a buycott to counter the boycott? Buy something at Lowe’s. It doesn’t matter what. Mail the receipt to his office:
Sen. Ted Lieu
State Capitol, Room 4090
Sacramento, CA 95814
Include a note telling him what he can do with it.
