Mitt Romney’s $10,000 debate bet will haunt him forever
SFGate: Politics Blog ^ | 12/11/11 | Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Political Writer

For as long as he lasts in the prez race, Mitt Romney is gonna regret offering to make a $10,000 bet with Rick Perry at Saturday night’s GOP debate. Why? Because only rich guys make $10,000 bets. The rest of the world says, “Betcha five bucks.” Or “betcha a beer.”

But not Mitt, the son of an auto company CEO/Michigan Governor. Guys like Mitt, who is worth north of $190 million bet $10,000.

If you missed the moment — or, we hope, have enough of a life that you weren’t watching a political debate on a Saturday night — Texas Gov. Rick Perry again accused Mitt Romney of altered a later edition of his book that pertained to the individual mandate for health care. Independent fact-checkers have shown the Perry’s claim is WRONG.

But instead of just again sticking to the facts, Mitt went into Flustered Mitt Mode. You know, when someone dares to challenge the CEO, even with the wrong facts:

“I’ll tell you what. 10,000 bucks? Ten-thousand-dollar bet?” Romney said to Perry.

“I’m not in the betting business,” Perry replied.

You know Rick Perry doesn’t like Romney, and vice-versa. So..... it’s gotta be satisfying for Perry to.... accidentally..... drive the final nail in Mitt’s political coffin. Go Newt!
Yes, only now we have to reckon with Zombie Willard as Team Romney has yet to realize that its very tiny heart has stopped beating altogether. He will stumble around for a while trying to eat the other candidates' brains with comic results.

Mitt Romney fouled up my life, the life of my children, and the life of their children forever with his acquiescence to a stealth Socialism under his watch.
ftw! I am so right there with you.

Yawn. Those who don’t like Mitt because of his politics won’t change their minds. Those who do like him will continue to do so. Typical media bluster.

“Some say Obama wants Romney, because he will fit like a glove into the class-warfare anti-Wall street hate campaign allegedly being planned for next year.”

Well, he would at that. And that’s their plan, clearly. Then if, heaven forbid, Obama wins he’ll be able to claim a mandate for whatever evil re-distributionist plans he may have.

NOT GOOD.

Men make $5,000, $10,000 bets all the time. This is silly. Rick Perry has enough money to make this kind of bet with Mittens.

bingo! They call it ‘lying for the Lord’ and it is not uncommon at all.

Boos for Romney’s $10k bet offer

Likely 2012 Republican voters are frowning on Mitt Romney’s controversial offer to make a $10,000 bet with GOP rival Rick Perry.

Forty-three percent of them say Romney’s effort to make that bet has diminished their view of him.

Here is the question we put to registered voters who say they’ll vote in their state’s 2012 Republican primary or caucus: “In last night’s Republican presidential debate, Mitt Romney offered to make a $10,000 bet with Rick Perry about whether something was or was not in Mitt Romney’s book. Does the offer of that bet improve or diminish your view of Mitt Romney?”

Here’s how they responded: 43% said the bet offer diminishes their view of Romney, 16% said it improves their view of him, 36% said it makes no difference, and 5% were undecided or had no opinion.

In the scientific telephone survey conducted last night, we questioned 582 registered voters nationwide who said they’d vote in their state’s Republican primary or caucus.  The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4%.  The full crosstabs for the poll: Poll Position crosstabs – Romney bet.

CBS News interviewed Obozo on Sunday night .... waiting for transcript/articles to see how stringent they were with his howlers, his race-baiting, his religion-baiting, his conservative-baiting, and his work on driving the Muslim Brotherhood to power in a new caliphate.

Rick Perry has enough money to make this kind of bet with Mittens.

Unfortunately. Since, like LBJ, he's never been anything but a public servant since he left the Air Force.

LBJ, lying like a dog, used to say, well, Lady Bird made some real smart investments! (Yeah, like Hillary's.)

Not a Mitt fan, but I thought the bet was no big deal. People say, “Want to bet XX dollars?” all the time, it doesn’t mean they really are putting the money on the table even if they have it... Anyone agreeing that Mitt’s bet was a big deal is playing into zero’s class warfare mantra.

Media says BAD - Romney offers to wager $10,000 of his own money on a sure thing.

Media says GOOD - Obama wagers $550,000,000 of taxpayers money to his supporters on an iffy start-up business and loses it all.

Gov. Romney and his running mate Kerry Murphy Healey (after their one term he declined to run again, she ran but lost) accepted a salary that was a grand total of $0.00. Both could afford it.

Perhaps Mass. voters got what they paid for. (He has pledged if elected pres. to donate the salary to charity)

>>Incoming Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Tuesday neither he nor his lieutenant governor will draw their state salaries while in office, citing what Romney’s transition team called “a spirit of volunteerism.”
The governor’s salary in Massachusetts is $135,000 a year, while incoming Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey would have drawn $120,000 annually. Some of the money saved will be used to supplement the pay of senior advisers, Romney’s office said.
“This is a symbolic move that we hope sets the appropriate tone and which demonstrates our strong commitment to public service,” Romney said in a written statement Tuesday.

(For the record, his successor Deval Patrick-D, did not do the same—rr)
