Romney Calls on Gingrich to Return Freddie Mac Money
The Corner ^ | 12/12/2011 | Katrina Trinko

Asked this morning if Newt Gingrich “should give that [Freddie Mac] money back,” on Fox and Friends, Mitt Romney said he thought Gingrich should.

“I sure do,” Romney responded. “He was on a debate saying that politicians who took money from Freddie and Fannie should go to jail, which is outrageous in itself. But, look, he says he was in the consulting business. That’s very different than the consulting business other people have been in. He was in the business of connecting folks with government. He was on K street. … It’s very different than the private sector.”

Romney appears to be referring to these remarks Gingrich made in the October Bloomberg/Washington Post debate:

What you need Mitt is a bombshell. This is more like a cap gun going off.

Impotent and as old as cannon balls bouncing off the sides of ironclads.

"What you need Mitt is a bombshell. This is more like a cap gun going off. "

I'm not a Romney fan at all but to say that it was nothing for Newt to take millions from Fannie and Freddie to hook them up with Conservative/Republicans politicians in order to block regulations on those two entities is absurd. And apparently, it worked!!! Now look where we are.

Mitt's campaign people are on the record saying he's worth about $200 million. It is sheer chutzpah for someone with that kind of coin to suggest another man give back money earned legally.

And, given that much of Romey's stash was earned "right-sizing" companies (firing people), he's virtually demanding a class warfare tack be taken against himself.

Not smart. Not presidential.

GONG! Thank you for playing.

Mitt sounds.....like he’s grasping at straws. Is he willing to return all of the money that he made at Bain shutting down companies and throwing people out of work? I think likely not.

Romney should return all the bailout tainted money he’s received from Wallstreet. He’s topped Obama last time I checked. He’s the #1 recipient of Goldman Sachs $$$. I’m not a Newt defender but I can’t understand why Romney wants to open the money question. It isn’t just desperate its stupid given his super rich position. Just like his 10k bet with Perry. What in the hell was that?
What we are seeing is the Romney who has run for President for over a decade but who has avoided really running. The man who thinks he is so perfect for the job that he doesn’t even have to try to win us over and instead has to play us with a ‘preppy peer pressure’ move trying to put forth an ‘air of inevitability’.

When Newt Gingrich returns from the political dead and is kicking your ass as a follow on to getting your ass kicked by John McCain then you aren’t inevitable you are a ‘dead candidate walking’.

UPDATE: Gingrich addressed Romney’s remark in a press availability this morning, saying, per Time’s Mark Halperin, that ”If Gov. Romney would like to give back all the money he’s earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain, then I would be glad to then listen to him.”

“And I will bet you $10, not $10,000, that he won’t take the offer,” Gingrich added.

Awesome!

Just shows Romney has the wrong first impulse. The response should have been, “that's water under the bridge, there should be no Fannie and Freddie to hire Newt for advice to begin with”. Romney is supposedly an expert at liquidating under performing organizations. The fact that he fails to see the root of the problem demonstrates that he is not the man for the job.

Coming on the heels of his $10,000 bet offer, Romney seems a little too concerned about Other Peoples Money.

I don’t think he’ll want someone to dig up how many millions in tax credits and other gummint free money gimme programs have benefited him and his businesses.

The Scumbag Willard should be put through full discovery [e-mails, interrogatories and depositions from him and his immediate cabal of snakes and rats] on every aspect of his campaign of sleaze and defamation against Sarah Palin and her family. After the resultant revelations have become known, The Willard will be invited to accompany Todd Palin on one of his Iron Dog training rides - extreme weather conditions required, of course. Just to check out his character, dontcha know.

Where do we get such scum and how does the Rino wing stand the man's stench? Were he to take the nomination, the mainslime media will lay out chapter and verse of his cowardly vendetta against Sarah Palin and he will lose to the chimpanzee by ten points, on that ground alone.

Will Romney and BAIN take back the money from the 911 Victory Mosque?

"(The GroundZero Mosque) cleared its final hurdle ….
developers plan to build the $100 million center which will include a mosque.
Since its incipient stages in July 2009, when a Muslim-run real-estate development
company purchased the damaged, vacant building and land where the new center
will be built, the project has sparked controversy and debate.
.... the tattered building that was bought by the Muslim real estate company had
been owned by a subsidiary of Bain Capital, a company Romney founded in 1984.

So it’s OK if his company can profit off the sale of the land ."

“Bain Capital, has cut checks totaling $90,000 to Romney’s operation. “

But you are not at all disappointed in allowing and helping Romney win, which will guarantee another 4 years for Obama.

And if Romney does win, (Which is highly unlikely) Romney will be perfectly glad to get Obama Care part 2 installed to appease his more Liberal leanings and voters.

Newt has made a promise which he has proven in the past to be good.

But go ahead, keep on doing the work for the Left that they cannot. You should be ashamed to call yourself a conservative when you help the Left do their dirty work and don't even care about the outcome.
