Posted on 12/12/2011 10:51:46 AM PST by Westbrook

I just got a phone call from the folks at http://www.nationalgunrights.org/

They are saying Newt is a gun-grabber.

Have a look at this. http://www.nationalgunrights.org/he-wants-your-thumbprint/

Does not sound very conservative to me.

Gingrich has an A rating with the NRA and unequivocally supports gun rights and has a long track record to prove it. He has spoken at the NRA to members about protecting responsible gun owner's rights and gave a brief history of exactly why gun rights are so essential.

Your posts are making you look bad.
Newt is not perfect, but this is just nuts.

Newt became Speaker, in large measure, in due to gun owners’ revolt against Clinton!

WHATS IMPORTANT "IS"...

What will a strong conservative Congress allow him to get away with?..
As Glen Beck says.. (and proves) Newt is a "PROGRESSIVE".. Like the Clintoons, Obama, and YES->.. George Bush.. (both of them)

America does NOT really WANT the ONLY conservative candidate (M. Bachmann).. or the very white and waspy Santorum..

Newt Gingrich’s record disturbing to home state gun owners
Georgia gun owners long aware of Newt’s anti-gun record

Kennesaw, GA – The 6,000 members and supporters of the premier grassroots gun rights group in Georgia, Georgia Gun Owners, began buzzing the phone lines of the Newt 2012 Iowa campaign headquarters (515-468-9225) demanding Mr. Gingrich apologize to gun owners for his more than two-decade history of supporting gun control.

“Georgia Gun Owners knows Newt’s history of gun control. He represented parts of our state for 20 years. He’s been playing both sides of the gun issue as long as we can remember.

Take a look at the Marietta (GA) Daily Journal from September 16, 1996. The headline is ‘Gingrich supports gun ban.’ I remember Newt’s betrayal of gun owners back in the 90s like it was yesterday,” said D.R. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners.

While Newt used the institutional gun lobby as a mouthpiece to convince millions of gun owners nationwide that “as long as he is Speaker, no gun-control legislation is going to move in committee or on the House floor,” he was working behind the scenes to pass gun control.

In 1996, Newt Gingrich turned his back on gun owners and voted for the anti-gun Brady Campaign’s Lautenberg Gun Ban, which strips the Second Amendment rights of citizens involved in misdemeanor domestic violence charges or temporary protection orders — in some cases for actions as minor as spanking a child.

Gingrich also stood shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi to pass the “Criminal Safezones Act” which prevents armed citizens from defending themselves in certain arbitrary locations. Virtually all Americans know that Criminal Safezones don’t protect law-abiding citizens, but actually protect the criminals who ignore them.

“But the biggest knife that Newt plunged into the back of all Americans and gun owners who wish to defend themselves and their families, was his coming out in support of a national thumbprint database for gun owners,” said Mr. Leonard.

“I think we prefer to go to instant check on an immediate basis and try to accelerate implementing instant checks so that you could literally check by thumbprint… Instant check is a much better system than the Brady process.” — Newt Gingrich, June 27, 1997

“Newt Gingrich is no friend of gun owners. I wish Georgia Gun Owners had a mountaintop to scream this information from. We just want like-minded voters in early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to be aware of this.

Newt is trying really hard to play both sides of the Second Amendment. He’s a professional politician. But as the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. It’s in his record. His own words and votes. He’s a danger to our Second Amendment rights and privacy. The members of Georgia Gun Owners know this. We want ALL Americans to know this as well,” said Mr. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners.

I am not a Perrybot.

I was a contributor to, and supporter of, Herman Cain.

I will probably abstain from voting in the primary.

I will vote AGAINST 0bama0 in the general election.

I don’t expect to see the country turned around if Gingrich wins. Maybe the decay will be slowed a bit, but certainly not stopped.

Sure, let's all take hearsay and smear it all over as if it's a fact.

There is so much to the story that you are leaving out. But it looks better to you to warp and twist it, to suit your agenda. Therefore, you are no different than the Democrats and the MSM.

Enjoy your rule under another Obama term, or just as bad, ROMNEY. Not to mention. the DNC thanks you for all the help you are giving them.

So enlighten us, what was possibly left out that would refute what was in the story?

I do not support ANY of the current candidates... but newt voted for the Brady Bill and was in support of the Lautenberg bill requiring almost any infraction of the law as disqualifying a citizen from their 2nd Amendment Right to KEEP and BEAR arms. newt is a progressive and if you support him... that fact cannot be spun away.

He looks waspy.. all white and everything.. waspy meaning “christian” not protestant..

Even though all roman catholics are not catholics..
some are secularists masked as catholics.. like the Kennedys.. and fully half at least of Massachusetts..

Could be and probably is not all catholics in the Vatican are “catholics”.. in the same way..

But according to my research ALL protestants consider themselves “catholics”.. just not roman catholics..

Still is true however anyway.. not all catholics are catholics.. of whatever brand..

You have no clue who I am.

Have you ever worked on a winning election campaign for anyone?

You really do not understand how the system works, and you really should try to be more honest with your posts, if you want anyone to respect you.

I have more battle scars from liberals than you could ever imagine. I have earned my right to call you out as being unreasonable and self-centered.

If Newt did or did not speak for or against anything is not what concerns me.

Newt’s problem is that he is all over the map - you never know when he’s going to slip a cog and go roaring off in a strange direction.
Sooner or later he returns to his quasi-conservative persona and tells us he made a foolish mistake. But what he does in the interim can be damaging.

Just imagine he was president when he had his attack of Cap-N’-Trade virus and he and Nancy were playing around on the sofa.
He would have signed anything into law that Pelosi wanted.
