Newt Gingrichs rise to the top of the GOP polls is fueled, in part, by Republicans mistrust of Mitt Romney. Romneys signature Massachusetts health-care law, the model for Obamacare, leads many to wonder whether Romney can challenge the president on this most important domestic issue. But any conservative who opposes Romney because of Romneycare should oppose Gingrich with thrice the intensity: Newt Gingrich is one of the principal abettors of the exploding health-care entitlement state we face today. Indeed, its not clear what would be worse for the cause of entitlement reform: Newts losing to Obama or Newts beating him.

Neither, thank you.
Actually, Newt was an early supporter of Medicare Advantage plans, a free market alternative to traditional Medicare.
Democrats choose their candidate on the basis of who will do the most to increase the size and scope of government. Republicans try to pick the person who will increase government the least. In either case we end up with bigger government. No wonder we are on the brink of collapse.
The SCOTUS will rule on Obamacare before the 2012 election. Should put a whole new perspective on the race. That being said...NEWT IN 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great. NRO goes after Cain and dumps him. Now NRO goes after Newt.
News flash NRO, WE AREN’T VOTING ROMNEY.
I’m not really sold on Newt, but it is so much to watch the establishment types freak out over Newt. They are determined to steer us to Dole, er, I mean McCain, er, I mean Mitt.
I don’t trust either of them...Newt makes my skin crawl. He’s just another DC connected, dorky oldtimer. The GOP rank and file is ticking me off!
I’ll have to vote for Romney over Newt if it comes down to it.
The writer is probably just another MittRomney supporter at NR.
Hmmmmm...The Speaker that pushed through welfare reform or the President that gave us Obamacare? Who would be better to reform entitlements?
Gingrich is the worst of the GOP candidates. Very flawed character-wise and personality-wise. He is obviously unelectable.
But many are drinking the koolaid. Watch a wipe out worse than McCain in ‘08.
Yup. Newt could have stopped after saying he would eliminate the EPA but he then said he would replace it with another federal agency called the environmental solutions agency.
What is the difference between Newt advocating for forced participation in a national health care system when he was Speaker of the House...
...and Freepers trying to force Tea Party members into voting for Newt because that is supposedly the Republican thing to do?
I’m not sold on Newt either. I’m going to vote Perry because at this point I think he is conservatives only hope. I wish Sarah would have run.
And did you know that Obama is still the President?
Sheesh! New stuff to ponder every day I tell you!
Oh PLEASE!!!!! Newt is a differnt man since he reconnected to God!! He is NOT McCain....witness the “establishmnet” hates him and wants Mitt, but the “establishment gave us Dole AN D MCCAIN, because they were “next in line”!!!<P.I say MIX IT UP....let’s try Newt....WAAAAAAAYYYY better that Obama and different from Mitt!!!
Newt is the most intelligent, most articulate, knowledgeable candidate with deep understanding of American history.
Articulate, intelligent people feel threatening to the TV educated voters, making them feel inadequate.
Which one on the couch is newt, since they both believe in living on the tax payers tit.
Newt is just unlikeable, imo. We run Newt as our candidate, I’d expect Obama to get 60% of the women’s vote.
RE: Ill have to vote for Romney over Newt if it comes down to it.
Talk about exposing oneself as an idiot.
Let me guess, Ron Paul? No?
“Ill have to vote for Romney over Newt if it comes down to it.”
Freeper exclusive lol...moderates on parade.
More of the right media throwing bombs at Newt in order to elevate Romney.
The Establishment types are overjoyed that Gingrich has risen to be the alternative to Romney. They can hardly contain themselves. There are a few Establishment types who had previously sided with Romney or Perry, who are mildly criticizing him; but they are treating Newt with kid gloves and unlike the Cain for example, they have fully accepted him as front-runner and a legitimate nominee.
Gingrich is one of them.
Newt Gingrich is the poster child for Establishment politics. He is the ultimate insider. He helped build and is significantly responsible for our current, modern corrupt political system.
Newt is playing you, telling you what you want to hear without meaning it. Don't be stupid.
A vote for Newt Gigrich is a vote to perpetuate the corrupt political system that has ruined our economy, government and country.
That's what my wife says too, for precisely that reason. Also, Calista as first lady?
Very well said. :)
There are many of us who have followed Gingrich for a long, long time, who are totally against Romney, but who fully realize what Newt is all about.
He is not who or what you think he is. He is totally playing you.
Newt is corrupt and deserves all the bombs, missiles, flames and criticism we can throw at him.
Don't be fooled by him, especially if you are Tea Party member. Please, open your eyes.
I’m a women and I have no problem voting for Newt. So your wife things that Obama is more likeable and she’d rather have Michelle in the WH that Calista.
Any woman, or man, for that matter, who thinks that. deserves what happens to this country.
“NO”, looking more and more like I will sit this one out.
Aren’t you one of the Paul fringers that attacked Palin, and then Cain, the two outside conservatives?
So, now we have a conservative that is not a true outsider, this is true. But, the Establishment hates him, you even heard them yelling at the Debate, when Newt zinged him.
LOL, no the GOP E does not like Gingrich, because he has vision and will set his own agenda, not that of the GOP E.
Right, wasn't Newt slammed for saying his legislation would cause Medicare to "wither on the vine" as people switched from Government Healthcare to private advantage plans amd medical savings accounts? Lots of ignorant, deluded people running around these days forming opinions based on a single piece of anecdotal evidence cherry-picked from a guy who likes to brainstorm in public. Not real smart...
NO, looking more and more like I will sit this one out.”
“Neither, thank you.”
Amen. Joining every liberal cause after quitting congress shows poor judgement. Finding individual mandate unconstitutional after 20 years pushing it (once running for president) is progress, but not convincing.
Bull, what will women tell their daughters, look honey all it takes to be first lady is finding the right married man and get into a little office desk action.
Ah yes, the Republican establishment trying to smear Newt while propping up Mitt. Go Newt.
How I miss William Buckley. I have a feeling that he would set some of these Republicans straight on a few matters. I’d love to see him have a little chat with Lindsey Graham. ;-/
I choose Newt over Romney. Period.
Newt was also an early proponent of ocial Sevcurity reform that would make it “wither on the vine”
This was a GOOD IDEA and the presstitutes hamered him for it (this was before widespread acceptance of the fact that the media of stocked with libtards and the power of Fox News)
LMAO, yeah the Establishment is real happy Newt came along. George Will, Karl Rove, Ann Coulter and Little Billy Kristol are absolutely giddy with glee at the thought of a Gingrich candidacy. NOT...
Newt Gingrich = John McCain #2
[NO, looking more and more like I will sit this one out.]
Well I’ll bet you say that to ALL the girls........
So do you propose that the site become the newt idol shrine. Go for it!!
“...that is supposedly the Republican thing to do.”
AND...we are looking at the more CONSERVATIVE thing to do....with the possible candidates we’ve got.
>> Mark Steyn once called Gingrich a lily-livered ninny whom everyone thinks is a ferocious right-wing bastard. <<
And Steyn has come out strongly against Newt within the last week or so. I guess that means Steyn is now officially a socialist RINO.
Actually, I think YOU may be drinking that koolaid.
“So, now we have a conservative that is not a true outsider,”
Your right about being an insider though...
