Earlier this summer, Newt Gingrich passed on the opportunity to sign The Family Leader Marriage Vow, which asks political candidates to commit to take specific actions to support traditional marriage upon election. Gingrich didn’t object to the pledge so fiercely as Mitt Romney, whose campaign staffers called parts of the pledge “undignified and inappropriate,” but the former House Speaker did suggest he thought the pledge could use some tweaking. At the time, at least one pundit jokingly speculated that Gingrich didn’t like the inclusion of the phrase “personal fidelity to my spouse.”
Turns out, he’s on board with that. The GOP frontrunner finally officially responded to The Family Leader executive board’s long-ago invitation to him to sign the pledge. He didn’t actually sign it, but, in a letter, he says that, as president, he would (a) support a federal marriage amendment, (b) ensure no taxpayer dollars go to fund abortions either at home or abroad and (c) fight for conscience protections for healthcare providers … among other things.
But the most interesting sentence of Gingrich’s letter comes at the end of the second paragraph.
“I also pledge to uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others,” Gingrich writes.
Call me crazy, but I thought marriage vows were supposed to be all the pledge a person needed to make to reassure a potential partner — and any interested onlookers — of fidelity. (That was actually the valid objection Romney made to the pledge in the first place.) Then again, in light of recent increased scrutiny of Gingrich’s past affairs (and, most notably, attacks from the long-married Mitt), perhaps this explicit expression of faithfulness is savvy.
Boy this guy is a piece of work.
Amazing we are stuck with this as the leading candidate on the Republican side. My how the republican party has fallen.
Would a real conservative please pick up the phone? The Country is calling 911 and no one seems to be answering.
we are nominating a parody
Good for Newt.
“The son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. “But the father said to his servants, Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate; for this, my son, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.”
As for the Pharisees who don’t believe in redemption....piss off.
Its not his wife I’m worried about.
Newt is just doing what all politicians do to get elected. He is full of it.
Excellent! You are my type of Christian
It depends up what your definition of cheat is. And what your definition of promise is. Not to mention what your definition of is is.
As for the Pharisees who dont believe in redemption....piss off.
Read my lips. No Newt trystses!
And here we go...The driveby’s have proven they can destroy with sexual innuendo and lies alone. Very, very soon a stealth staffer will “come out about Newt hitting on and pawing at her....”. I can already hear it.
His first wife is currently 75.
He cheated on her, with a woman who later became his second wife, who is currently 60.
He cheated on her, with a woman who later became his third wife, who is currently 45.
Therefore, the laws of mathematics suggest that he is currently having a secret affair with a woman who is 30 years old.
Isn’t that SPECIAL....ohh I guess it is for him...
Isn’t that SPECIAL....ohh I guess it is for him...
He's toast. The die is cast. It's just a matter of time, now.
I can’t stand this a-moral RINO. This is disgusting. How on Earth did we get here? Are Conservatives not listening? Do the GOP elite truly have so much power over our people? Maybe so. So very sad.
Redemption is for God and Newt. I make no judgment on his relationship with the Almighty. But just because someone claims to be a Christian does NOT make them one. God will do what God is going to do. As for me? No way I vote for this pig.
Gonna go “piss off” now.
She may have Tiffany’s in her jewelery box but she’s got Newt’s in her lock box.
The big difference between Newt aand Dems like Clinton:
Atleast Newt eventually marries the women he sleeps with....
As you should
That’s right, how the party has fallen into a facepalm parody!
We want a guy who’ll be fooling around with the interns, don’t we?!
Whoever heard of that name?
Newt's weirder than Sideshow Bob.
On the other hand, if he had never gotten married, none of this would be an issue.
That’s my big concern about the guy. Every once in a while, he says something that he either shouldn’t say, or shouldn’t have to say, or both.
The women who become romantically involved with Newt are the same sort of wacky, unstable cat ladies who marry death row prisoners the night before their executions.
They're all totally nuts.
I ask again. Callista?
What kind of name is that? Crazy cat lady name....
I don’t care!
Enough of this crap children!
Callista? that’s not too bad, come on, his name is newt.
You have one: Ron Paul. But because he's not a hawk who jumps at any opportunity to spend soldier's lives and taxpayer money to defend other nations' borders, he's vilified and ignored by the RINOs. And any Republican who can't see that Ron Paul is the only true conservative running may very well fall into that category.
There you have the candidates, in a nutshell.
This is a joke, right?
It’s all the bad stereotypes of politicians rolled into one. The Newt takes self-deprecation to a new level.
Before there was Callista Gingrich, there was Callista Flockhart. haha.
There’s a difference though when someone is running for public office vs. forgiving someone of past indiscretions. I could care less what he does in his personal life - that’s between him, his family members and friends, and God.
However, if someone is running for public office I do think that one’s past behavior should be considered (not sure to what weight, though). We’re talking about the Presidency, after all. I wish there was a better choice available - man, do I wish for that... It’s not about forgiveness in the Christian way - it’s about being intelligent in evaluating available candidates when all you have to consider IS past behavior.
“As for the Pharisees who dont believe in redemption....piss off.”
Ditto to that..
LOL! Not a difficult thing to do considering his softness and mushiness. What else is there? Good move, Newt. No wonder he talks nonstop, his tongue has life of its own!
Or two 15-year-olds.
Reminds me of the Seinfeld dry cleaner episode.
In other news...
Ron Paul will promise not to be insane.
Santorum/Bachmann will promise us they have a chance.
Perry will promise he can beat Obama in debate.
and Romney will promise that he is not a Rino and Mormon.
Newt is an old eyesore alright, and I can’t believe any woman would marry him with his history, except for the Tiffany account.
As for her, at 45 she looks about 75 anyway, with that Botox face and weird hair helmet, right out of a country club in 1965. I wouldn’t be caught dead with her look, and I have ten years on her. My friend calls her a Stepford wife.
Really, really, and not because of the weird appearances (but they don’t help), can’t we look at some other candidates?
I believe that Ron Paul is the only candidate who entered politics becauase he loves his country and wants to keep the USA from falling into the abyss. He is a real patriot.
Now that is very funny! Classic!.
