Absolutely Amazing!

God bless Augusta Chiwy.
God bless Renee Lemaire.
God bless the 101st.
God bless Brig. Gen. Anthony McAuliffe

Gutman said the diminutive Chiwy combed battlefields during the battle, often coming under enemy fire, to collect the wounded in the deep snow.

"What I did was very normal," Chiwy said during the ceremony. "I would have done it for anyone. We are all children of God."

Just think of the thousands of Americans alive today entirely due to this lady's bravery.

Another Belgian nurse - Chiwy's friend Renee Lemaire - was killed along with about 30 patients when a bomb penetrated a cellar

Renee is presumably the model for the young nurse who befriends medic Eugene in Band of Brothers.

“24th Dec.1944 - Ju 88 bombers of I/KG 66 attacked Bastogne along with aircraft from LG 1.

As a prelude to the attack the town centre was marked with magnesium flares and once the attack was over some strafing took place.”

This article assumed those particular buildings were targeted because of the large numbers of vehicles that had been transporting wounded and supplies parked close by.

“”What I did was very normal,” Chiwy said during the ceremony.”

Perhaps normal for YOU, dear Miss Chiwy, which is what makes you a true heroine in my book.

God Bless Augusta Chiwy and may her remaining days be many, long and happy.

And God bless the 28th Division(w/o which there would have been no battle for Bastogne).

God Bless my 2nd cousin Victor J. Mangin (KIA 12/17/44 Munshausen Luxembourg Company C 110th infantry).
