Newt Gingrich Praised SEIU Head Andy Stern's Forward-Looking Vision
Newt Gingrich's own book "Real Chance: From the World That Fails to the World That Works" | Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich Praised SEIU Head Andy Stern's Forward-Looking Vision

In his book "Real Chance: From the World That Fails to the World That Works," Gingrich praises the SEIU head, who remains a close adviser of the President Obama. Pitching the need for conservatives to respect organized labor, while simultaneously pushing back against some of Labor's more cherished legislative goals, he wrote the following:

Conservatives cannot cheer unions overseas and then be blindly anti-union here at home. There are legitimate historic reasons for workers to organize together, and there is a strong need for a healthy, competitive, union, movement that helps improve the lives of its members and the competitiveness of our country.

Andy Stern, the head of the Service Employees International Union, is the union leader who probably best understands the challenge of the world market and the need to make American union members productive in the face of world competition. Sadly, he is a distinct minority among union leaders.

I told you guys he was a progressive! The headline comes from the Huffington Post, Beck just read this on the air.

Below is the actual link, but it shouldn't be clickable. I put the quote from Huff Po into google, and that's how I came up with the link from Newt's actual book link above.

Beck just read this on the air live, minutes ago. I know Huff Post isn’t normally something welcome on FR. But given the circumstances, and given that they’re really the only place that’s carrying this as of right now that I saw, other Freepers should be able to see this. I have the link from Gingrich’s book, so we’re not giving Huffpo web hits.

Great. We’re going to nominate that POS Romney. MSM and Obama get their way. Again.

Newt praised Andy Stern?

Did he have anything nice to say about Richard Trumka?

Of all the reasons to think twice about Newt this is the most glaring to me.

I simply don’t care. Romney is a pale Obama. Newt isn’t great, but he’s way better.

Anyone who has listened to Newts love of FDR “being able to get things DONE” should know! I want to beat Obama as badly as the next person...but we don’t need a BIG Gov’t Republican to do the job. Time to look a little further down the line

Newt is not getting his information about Conservatives cheering unions overseas from conservatives!

I agree but look at our options. The mainstream press is trying to ensure we'll only be left with Romney. I don't think Newt is the best choice but he still beats O by a mile. For that matter, he beats Romney too.

Keep reading the passage, the meaning changes from what is insinuated by this snippit, IMHO. Not sold on Newt here, but these studid claims should be questioned.

I didn’t read anything there that said he was a Progressive.

Now go find something else to hyperventilate over.

There are other candidates besides Mitt and McNewt. Let’s find a conservative and vote for him/her. Romney has zero chance of winning the nomination.

RE :"I know Huff Post isn’t normally something welcome on FR.'

I notice that all the AOL news on AOL.com main page is posted at huffpost now. So clicking on the news article on AOL takes you to huffpost. It's annoying.

Beck also played audio of Newt saying FDR was the greatest president of the 20th century, because “he got things done”.

I'm still in the anybody but Obama category, but God help us if we trade one progressive in for another. Or cause such a riff that we drive too many into voting for a third party and end up with Obama again.
