Detained officials had invited Iran's supreme leader to visit weapons depot same day as explosion, Al Arabiya reports.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hoseyni Khamenei has ordered the arrest of a number of senior members of the Revolutionary Guards he suspects of planning to assassinate him, pan-Arab news Channel Al Arabiya reported Tuesday.

Khamenei demanded an investigation of the detainees, "and others," about the alleged assassination plot, an "informed source in Iran" told the Emirati news station.

Intriguing. Was the blast a few weeks back that killed the top IRGC missile commander really an inside job to assassinate Ayatollah Khamenei? Ahmadenijad and the Ayatollahs have reportedly been at odds. I guess this also could have been an IRGC mole planted by the West?

The strange thing is that the explosion took place anyway, even though the Supreme Leader wasn’t going to be there. This accusation seems like a setup for the Supreme Leader to get rid of someone.

Power shuffles by the radicals rather than anyone interested in destroying the Islamic Republic.

Looks like the old wild eyed fanatics fanatical son conspired with a rival wild eyed fanatic to have the old wild eyed fanatic knocked off.

Mojtaba Khamenei, Khamenei's son and an ardent supporter of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was one of the officials that was arrested, according to the report.

As long as they keep killing each other off, I’m good with it.

Well, its pretty much common knowledge that the mossad has a source in Khamenei’s inner circle. It could be this guy is trying to put the leak in Ahmadinijahd’s office so that he is not found out. Time will tell.

This adds to the “who done it?” list.

One could now speculate it is all an inside job with no outside involvement. Rather than external aggression or payback, the actions might be internal and civil war.

When considering Shia, one can now consider Iraqi Shia aiding the their compadres in Iran wanting to get rid of the Mullahs.

Thanks jhpigott.
Detained officials had invited Iran's supreme leader to visit weapons depot same day as explosion...
Number one, I don't believe this; if this had been an inside job, the fact that the Shiite-head didn't show up would mean, don't blow up the place. This appears to be just another iteration of the usual tactics of a despot -- round up and punish (usually by execution) people railroaded for something they didn't do. It helps when one is trying to rule by fear. Stalin used to do this nonstop, for decades, often using perceived rivals as scapegoats for crimes he himself had ordered. Henry VIIth did the same thing -- got one of his henchmen (in trouble for something else) to confess to murdering the little princes on behalf of the (innocent) Richard III, then executed him anyway.

It also reduces the need to admit that this was an act of foreign sabotage.
