Ron Paul, the once-forgotten presidential candidate, is picking up steam in Iowa and now appears poised to overtake frontrunner Newt Gingrich, according to a new survey released today from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling.
The poll finds support for Gingrich has slipped to 22%, with Ron Paul just behind with 21%. Mitt Romney trails in third place with 16%.
That's a five-point drop in favorability for Gingrich, who has raced to the top of the Republican presidential field over the past month. PPP found Gingrich's favorability numbers have fallen 19 points over the past week.
Meanwhile, support for Paul is on the rise, particularly among younger voters and voters who identify themselves as "new." Among likely caucus-goers under age 45, Paul leads Gingrich 30-16. The numbers are nearly flipped for caucus-goers over age 45.

Ron “is ok with Iran getting nukes” Paul doesn’t have a chance in heck of winning anything.
I don’t get it...how can people who call themselves conservative just ignore his bleme-America-first, disastrous and dangerous foreign policy?
I daresay there’s more than a few of us who would think about voting for Paul if his foreign policy wasn’t so BatS**t insane.
Al lot changes in an hour.
“At a time like this, we can’t afford the luxury of thinking!”
Yeah... Good luck with that. Ron Paul Supporters don’t vote. At least not in Republican Primaries.
Liberatarian perhaps, but not Libertarian.
And it’s too late to change Party ID’s in Iowa.
These polls are rigged and usually asked of self-identified Paulbots. I voted for Paul in the 2008 primaries, but I knew he’d never win. I was a Thompson man, but he dropped out leaving us with the crikarmed pile of shit McCain.
Let’s get real with Paul. He’s going to be 77, that’s SEVENTY-SEVEN, before the election.
The people voting for Paul aren’t conservative; they are libertarian. They ‘mask’ themselves as Republicans to get elected. That’s how those crazy as bat sh*t Free Staters get elected in New Hampshire...”look at me...I’m a Republican!!!”
Iowa should drop dead if they support Ron Paul.
Ru Paul (that earmarking hypocrite) for Secretary of the Treasury!
But for his goofy isolationist foreign policy, he’d get my vote.
The good news is that Iowa has a crappy track record in picking presidents.
Possibly proving once again how irrelevant Iowa is to the election.
So, how do the MassHoles get elected in NH?
Wrong! I'll bet you $10,000... well, okay, a nickel that RuPaul wins every single unscientific straw poll and every poll that can be flooded by his cult supporters!
...and not any of the polls or primaries or caucauses that really matter. ;-)
I don’t think he’s “ok” with Iran getting nukes. He just doesn’t want another Iraq war fiasco.
I like this. This slows down Mr. Amnesty so conservatives have time to regroup.
Any amnesty, global warming, individual mandate loving rinos can stay home.
