New Haven Asks State to Allow Non-Citizens to Vote
NBC Connecticut ^ | 12/14/2011

Posted on 12/14/2011 5:52:21 AM PST by Puppage

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano plans to ask the state Legislature to allow illegal immigrants who live in the city to be able vote in municipal elections.

DeStefano said on Tuesday that the proposal would build a more engaged community and follows the lead of other cities, the New Haven Register reports.

The Register reports that 10,000 to 12,000 undocumented residents are believed to live in New Haven.

Immigrants who are in the U.S. legally or illegally and cannot vote now would still be unable to vote in state or federal elections.

DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote.

New Haven made national headlines in 2007 when the city approved a program that provides municipal identification cards for all residents -- including illegal immigrants -- to provide access to services such as banking and the library.

And at the Federal level, even LEGAL immigrants can’t vote, though I guess some local and state elections do allow them to vote.

Maybe we ought to go back to only property owners can vote.

Setting precedent, one step at a time, one vote at a time.

Allow this and next will be county elections, then state elections, then national elections.

==

There was also a recent thread that was somewhat ironic: some/many SEIU locations require photo IDs for union elections, but they are against photo IDs for national [as in presidential] elections. Go figure ...

They pay taxes indirectly through rent? How do we know that? It’s not like they’re documented tenants. If New haven schools get any Federal Aid then I as a Federal taxpayer should get to vote there as well.

According to that "logic", New Haven should require all stores to hand out voter registration certificates to anyone from anywhere who shops in a New Haven store, because they are paying taxes indirectly through their purchases, and they are residing in the city during the time when they are shopping there.

(Guess that would leave me out - I avoid New Haven like the plague, because the city is run by thieving Democrat idiots - but I repeat myself.)

Interestingly, there’s a word for this: Treason.

Well why stop there, why not send absentee ballots to Iran and let them have a say in our government too.

Not so far fetched.

IIRC, it was Orin Hatch (R-UT) who was advocating allowing foreigners to vote in US elections. And IIRC, he was also one of those advocating that foreign-born should be allowed to run for the presidency. That was in the early days of The Arnold's victory in the California governor's election.

In case somebody doesn’t know: New Haven is the home of Yale University. That should explain a lot.

DeStefano, a Democrat, said illegal immigrants pay taxes indirectly through rent and send their kids to New Haven schools and should be able to vote. They stick 4 families in a 2 bedroom apt. and send their kids to our schools, taking full advantage of all our free services...yes, that includes breakfast, lunch, and a late afternoon snack...so that our citizens, who really are paying, don't get in the programs because they are full with non English speaking kids! GRRRRRR!

Now they are going to vote so they can vote themselves more free stuff! Damn, this starts my day off bad!

Excellent point. Just because they ‘renters’ doesn’t mean they pay any tax. Section 8 housing people (for example) pay next to nothing, and in fact are a net drain all the way around on the tax base—they use more benefits, have their kids in school, and much of their housing is paid for by Fed tax money sucked out of the rest of us.

New Haven is swarming with leftists, gun-toting thugs, and illegals. New Haven’s per capita murder rate puts it among the country’s most dangerous places. Yale University’s “Law Center” has made it their business to punish the police forces of surrounding communities for “profiling”. In an ideal world those surrounding communities would be setting up check points, mortar batteries, and deportation centers. New Haven is a City of Evil.

Nope, both countries have tough election laws and forbid non-citizens to vote. Hell, it is illegal in Mexico for a non-citizen to become involved in political activities in the country (This is noted in Mexico's immigration laws).

Why should people have to live there to get a vote?

Seriously, I had an engaging debate with a Danish eurotwit who honestly wanted all non US citizens of the world - although his examples were only about Europeans - to have legal voting rights in US elections on the grounds that the things that the US does impacts them either directly or indirectly. :)

It all came to an abrupt end when I wrote "sure - as soon as 300 million Americans get to vote in Danish elections"

This guy was very serious...

“DeStefano, a Democrat”

Says it all. They Got their Obama Agenda and it’s got Them even More despised than Before they got it.

Without Illegals to pander to, they got Bupkiss, and they just keep applying what Got them despised in the first place: Stupidity and Criminality.

I pay taxes in the city where I work but don’t live however I cannot vote there.

Similar situation here -- I live in one state and work in another. I pay state taxes where I work, but can't vote there.

Taxation without representation, plain and simple.

But if I was illegal, I guess I could vote anywhere I damn well please.

I had ancestors who died so that Americans, Americans, could be free to vote and now this asswipe wants to hand the franchise to anything that can invade our shores and cross our borders?

He's not just wrong, he's something beyond wrong.
